People Are Sharing The Things They'll Always Buy No Matter How Much It Costs

A while back, redditor u/lemurscreech asked, "What purchase is always worth the money?" People shared the things that are 100% worth every penny — even if they can be expensive — and it's sooo helpful. Here's what they had to say:

1."A good vacuum. When I moved into my new apartment, instead of buying some crappy generic one, which breaks after a couple of months, I bought a Hoover. It works way better, especially since I have cat hair everywhere."

2."Renters insurance. My apartment building burned down. Got an $18,000 check two weeks later. My rent was $850/month, and I had been paying $15/month for insurance for about 18 months before the fire."

3."My brother just bought a high-end pillow. His reasoning is pretty straightforward: pillows can last a long time, and you use them for something important every day. We put $50–60 dollars into a pair of shoes that will last us maybe a year; investing in a quality pillow that will last you years is worth every dime."

4."A taxi/Uber ride home and back again in the morning to pick up your car [if you've been drinking]."

"Just understand your life is worth more than cab fare. I'm a high school student who comes to school and hears about kids wrapping their cars around poles/trees, and they all thought, 'I'm only a little drunk — definitely not drunk enough for expensive cab fare.'"

5."Tools. Whether you buy a harbor freight or Snap-On tool, you now have something you can build and disassemble with. Some tools are better than others, but all tools are worth having, even if that screwdriver is as useful as a stir stick and pry bar."

"I'm not advocating that harbor freight is quality; instead, cheap tools have their place. For example, the beater screwdriver set used for prying and chipping or tools you want to modify for a specific single use. You need to reconsider if you expect a harbor freight socket to work with a breaker bar. All that said, with about 30 seconds of inspection before buying, check for obvious defects. I have yet to have harbor freight tools fail, but I also recognize their limits are probably lower than a high-end tool. They work great in environments where any tool will get destroyed quickly (emergency repairs in wet epoxy, carbon dust, etc.)."

6."A toilet plunger. Buy one before it's too late."

7."Real maple syrup. It's, like, five times the price, but I'll never go back."

8."Professional movers. The first time I hired them, they had me out of my old place and into my new place in three hours flat — and the new place was over an hour away. My folks and I would've spent all day doing the same thing and would've gotten into who knows how many fights."

9."A perfect-fitting bra. A good one can cost a good bit, but the comfort and support are SOOO worth it!"

10."If you are going to get a tattoo, research and find a good artist who specializes in the style you are looking for. Expect to pay a few hundred dollars for good work. Don't go to someone who does tattoos out of their house because they can hook you up for cheap. It's going on your body forever, and you want it to look nice."

11."A good mattress. I will never understand how a person can spend $20k on a car they sit in 30 minutes a day but will suddenly balk at spending $1,500 on something they will spend a third of their life on."

12."Good quality headphones. You never quite realize how bad of a quality the stock earbuds are until you try something at least half-decent. If you find yourself listening to music semi-often, please consider upgrading."

13."Computers. You pay a low price, you get a bad computer. You pay a lot of money, and you get an incredible machine. It's worth what you pay for it every time."

14."A purchase that's worth the money is a helmet for your bike. I cannot stress enough the importance of having a decent helmet, whether for a push bike or a road bike."

"I've had cases where a couple of my mates have ended up in hospital because of their terrible helmets — concussions, split head, etc."

u/AnalDrilldo_69er

15."Good cheese. Low-quality cheese tastes like salty plastic to me."

u/arbili

16."Toilet paper."

u/emilskoda

"My roommates don't understand this. They buy the thinnest, roughest toilet paper because it's cheap. I buy Charmin Ultra Strong/Soft Mega rolls because the better the paper, the less you need, and the longer it lasts. End up saving more in the end. They are just barbarians."

17."Quality trash bags. Living in a second-story apartment and having to trek all the way across the complex to throw my trash in the dumpster, I can't afford NOT to buy good trash bags. I refuse to have one split open on me when I'm halfway there. I buy the ForceFlex bags."

18."Travel. Seriously, the best thing you could ever spend your money on is seeing the world, different perspectives and cultures, and experiencing things you would otherwise never experience. It completely changes you as a person for the better."

u/Non_Sequitur_Ninja

19."Deodorant. Doesn't matter how much. If you find a scent you really like, buy as much as you can of it. Because the company might eventually stop making it."

u/Kalepsis

20."Black-out curtains. I just spent about $40 on two curtains and a curtain rod. I've been getting way better sleep and don't start tossing and turning an hour before I get up. "

"Also, I've noticed that since my cat always seems to want to sleep in the room, and he's been sleeping in, also. He's like a rooster and wakes at any sign of sunlight to stand on my chest and death stare me until I wake up to feed him."

And finally...

21."I recently got an electric toothbrush. My teeth have always built up plaque and tartar quickly; plus, even when I manually brushed, I could still feel the remnants of said buildup. My dentist questions my brushing and flossing every visit (even though I do both diligently); whenever I asked about an electric toothbrush, the answer was always that it's okay but not necessary. I got too frustrated with the buildup that wouldn't brush away, so I bought an electric toothbrush. The first time I used it...oh my goodness, I could not have imagined that. No buildup was left whatsoever (even in the back crevices)!"

"I love my new toothbrush so much. I don't even get buildup throughout the day anymore. My teeth stay clean and smooth as if I just brushed them all day long. They seem to look much whiter now, too, which is an added plus. Let's just say I am very happy with my purchase and don't mind spending extra on brush heads for cleaner teeth."
