The Old-Fashioned Dessert Ryan Gosling Loves to Make (He Learned From His Mom!)
You might not think of Ryan Gosling as a source of kitchen inspiration, but lately he has been sharing a lot of culinary advice. From clever tips for making the creamiest hummus to maximalist home decor ideas, the Barbie actor has tossed out some valuable gems.
Just in time for the holiday season, the Canadian actor recently offered up his go-to pie. “I make a hell of a pie,” Gosling said in an interview with W Magazine. “I go with raspberry.”
While Gosling didn’t share any additional details on how he bakes his favorite raspberry pie, The Kitchn has some tips if you want to try making one this holiday season.
To bake a raspberry pie, start by rolling out either a store-bought or homemade crust and placing it in a pie pan. Crimp the edges and refrigerate the crust to firm it up. Next, make the streusel by mixing all-purpose flour, light brown sugar, granulated sugar, kosher salt, and softened butter. Combine fresh or frozen raspberries with granulated sugar, cornstarch, kosher salt, freshly squeezed orange juice, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl. Pour this filling into the pie crust, then spread the streusel evenly on top. Bake the pie in a preheated oven at 400°F for about one hour and 15 minutes or until golden-brown.
“My mom used to bake as a side hustle growing up, so I’m just lucky enough to get the pie gene,” says Gosling.
While we’d love to get more details on Gosling’s pie obsession (does he love pumpkin pie, buttermilk pie, perhaps chocolate pecan pie?), we’ll have to settle on the fact that he can’t get enough of ones with tangy and sweet raspberry filling.
