Nicola Adams shares the story of her incredible journey to Olympic glory and how she changed both the public’s perception of the sport, and the opinion of promoter Frank Warren, an outspoken opponent of women’s boxing. During the London 2012 games, Nicola Adams rose to fame when she won Great Britain’s first-ever female boxing Gold, after beating the three-time world champion Ren Cancan of China. Since then, she has smashed even this incredible achievement by securing a grand slam of boxing titles – after becoming World Amateur Champion in May 2016, she is now the only female boxer in history to have won every major title including Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth. Adams is also the first British boxer to retain an Olympic title for 92 years by winning gold in the women's flyweight final in 2016. Described by Grazia magazine as “a one-woman revolution”, Nicola has been credited with the recent surge of popularity in women’s boxing – according to a Sport England study in 2016, 36,000 women say they partake in boxing training or boxing fitness classes at least once a month.
