New 'Uber for nannies' app for childcare could soon be on the way

We’ve all been there. You’re all set to dash out the door when you have a last minute childcare crisis. Whether the babysitter cancelled on you at the eleventh hour, the nanny called in sick or you just need to pop out last minute sans small people, finding childcare on the hop can be a tricky business.

But maybe not for much longer, as an app, dubbed by its creator as an ‘Uber for nannies’ could soon be on the way. Little Ones is the brainchild of mum-of-three, Viviana Rossios, from Melbourne who came up with the idea to give parents a “well-deserved break”.

The app works in a similar way to Uber. Parents simply log on when they need a nanny, check which childcare providers are online and then book their caregiver of choice.

“I’m a mum of three young children,” Viviana told Daily Mail Australia. “I’m constantly busy and I just thought: How come we get everything at the click of a button except childcare?”

“I knew that there would be other busy mums in my situation and so I decided to translate the idea into a business,” she continued.

But while the idea undoubtedly fills a real need, some parents will likely be concerned about the safety implications of having a stranger look after their children. Viviana, however is keen to reassure parents that all prospective carers have been rigorously checked.

Each nanny has a profile, with former families’ reviews and they set their own rate, depending on their experience. At the moment there are 380 nannies currently registered on the app and although the app is only currently functional in Syndey, Melbourne and Queensland, Viviana does hope to expand its reach, which means it may well be headed to the UK in the not too distant future.
