This Morning viewers incensed as they brand tea drinkers 'the new smokers'


This Morning viewers have made their opinion clear on the topic about tea breaks debated in Wednesday's show, 9 October. Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard hosted the discussion alongside Vanessa Feltz and Gyles Brandreth when talk turned to tea.

Cat and Ben went on to talk about people who make tea at work get the equivalent of eight days holiday a year by taking tea breaks. Viewers also took to social media, one said: “Tea drinkers are the new smokers” another pitched in with: “Id be on an extra 20 days #thismorning”. A third added: “I wonder if these same people arguing for tea breaks would also fight for fag breaks”

A fourth wrote: “I don't smoke and never have, but in one of my workplaces years ago I used to go outside with my friend who smoked for a "fresh air break", I never got called out on it, cos she was allowed to go out multiple times a day so I went with her to inhale oxygen #thismorning”.

Also on This Morning, Tervor Sorbie made the heartbreaking announcement that he’s been diagnosed with terminal cancer. The renowned international hairdresser, 75, emotionally explained he had bowel cancer and has been given weeks to live.

Ben and Cat were visibly moved by Trevor's story, as he sat with his wife and detailed how his nightmare had begun when he "lost a lot of blood" and went to the doctor. Trevor went on to tell viewers: "I lost a lot of blood one night and was unusually disturbed so went to hospital. They told me I had bowel cancer and I had a little panic attack. I looked at Carole [his wife] and she looked at me, we were both speechless, didn’t know what to say. So I went and had a big gin and tonic."

Trevor was supported by his wife, Carole, who then explained her husband had two ‘six and half hour hour’ operations. The famous hairdresser has always been open and honest about his illness and had previously opened up about having “five cancers in three years”. He also underwent chemotherapy and as a result, the loss of feelings in his fingers.

Praising Trevor, who opened his first salon in 1977 Carole added: “It’s totally overwhelming most days, but I get my strength through this man - he’s guiding me through a good death - living a good life and dying a good death - and up until then I hadn’t through about that, but what we do every day now is show thanks for every day that we have and wake up together and it’s all the simple things."
