Michael Schumacher breaks social media silence after being seen in public for first time in 11yrs
Former racing driver Michael Schumacher's social media account has broken its silence after he was seen in public for the first time in over a decade. The Formula 1 legend was seriously injured after enduring a catastrophic head injury while skiing in the French Alps in December 2013. The life-changing accident left him in a medically induced coma for several months and he now requires round-the-clock care.
The 55 year old's family have closely guarded his privacy, keeping his condition out of the public eye. But last month, he was spotted attending his daughter Gina's wedding as she tied the knot to her partner Iain Bethke in a ceremony at the famous family's luxury Spanish villa. The event was shrouded in secrecy, with guests handing in their phones to keep images of the star under wraps.
And on Tuesday (8 October), an update was shared from Michael's social media account for the first time since May to honour his incredible career. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the account posted two snaps from 2000's victory podium, writing alongside: "Exploding emotions. F1 GP Japan, first world championship title with Ferrari on this day in 2000."

The bio of the X account reads: "Official account of F1 legend Michael Schumacher. His paddock for friends, followers and fans; with thanks to all of them. Posts by #TeamMichael #KeepFighting."
Last December, Michael's ex-Ferrari boss Jean Todt shared some heartfelt words, saying: "Michael is here, so I don't miss him. He is simply not the Michael he used to be." He added: "He is different, and is wonderfully guided by his wife and children who protect him. His life is different now, and I have the privilege of sharing moments with him. That's all there is to say."

Meanwhile, Michael’s wife Corinna previously gave a rare insight into caring for her husband in a Netflix documentary. She said: "It's not just me who misses him. It's the children, the family, his father, everyone around him. Everybody misses Michael, but Michael is here - different, but here. He still shows me how strong he is every day.
"We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he's comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond. And no matter what, I will do everything I can."
Corinna continued: "We all will. We're trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives. It's very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael."
