Why did maid of honour Princess Beatrice arrive with Fergie at sister's royal wedding?
Princess Beatrice arrived with her mother Sarah, Duchess of York at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding – despite being her sister’s maid of honour.
Traditionally, the bride is accompanied by her maid of honour down the aisle, just like Pippa Middleton supported her sister the Duchess of Cambridge on her wedding day in April 2011.
But Princess Beatrice bucked tradition to support mum Fergie, so she didn’t have to arrive at St George’s Chapel in Windsor alone.
Fergie has had a fraught relationship with the royal family since her divorce from the Duke of York in 1996 and has only recently been welcomed back into the fold, having attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May.
Upon arrival, the Duchess greeted the crowds with waves and smiles, with many viewers referring to it as her ‘grand comeback.’
Fergie opted for an emerald green dress designed by local Windsor company Emma Louise Design, with a vintage Manolo Blahnik bag.
The clutch was carried by Susan Barrantes at the wedding of The Duke and Duchess of York in 1986.
Princess Beatrice wore a royal blue Ralph and Russo skirt suit and a hat by Sarah Cant.
