Lizzo launches shapewear: 'I’m tired of discomfort being synonymous with sexy'
Lizzo has announced that she is launching a body-positive shapewear line in partnership with activewear company Fabletics.
The Grammy-award winning singer who has long been a champion of body positivity announced the launch of Yitty – which is also the singer’s childhood nickname.
Launching on April 12, the collection is set to include items ranging from size XS to 6X, designed to be worn both as underwear and everyday pieces.
Announcing the launch on her Instagram page with a picture of her bum cheeks showing the Mesh Me style and revealing a Yitty temporary tattoo, Lizzo said that the brand was “a dream 5 years in the making”.
The Yitty Instagram page has already racked up 150,000 followers and counting at the time of writing, and expect that to grow exponentially given Lizzo’s reach.
She described the line – in partnership with athletics wear brand Fabletics – as “Shapewear you can wear Underwear, Overwear, Anywhere. For Every Damn Body. 6X to Xs.”
The Truth Hurts singer also shared several sneak peaks of the line to her own social media account.
In one picture, Lizzo is among a row of models with their backs facing the camera, each wearing a pair of the high-waisted shapewear knickers from the Yitty line. Introducing the brand, she described Yitty as “a love letter to my big girls” and “a welcome letter to everybody”.
“This is *not* an invitation to change who you are… this is an opportunity to BE who you are on your terms,” she clarified.
“I don’t know about y’all — but I’m sick of people telling me how I’m supposed to look and feel about my body,” she added. “I’m tired of discomfort being synonymous with sexy.”
“If it’s uncomfortable TAKE IT OFF. And if it makes you feel good PUT IT ON. @YITTY isn’t just shapewear, it’s your chance to reclaim your body and redefine your beauty standard.”
Taking to Instagram Live, the singer explained the three collections in the brand’s first drop: Nearly Naked, “designed to comfortably shape and firm”; Mesh Me, which can be worn both under clothing and as separates; and Major Label, which is described as “lifestyle wear”.
Expect bodysuits, smoothing shorts, tanks, unitards and more from the first drop in cheekily named colours such as “Bright Ass Blue” and “Neon P**sy Pink”.
