Lena Duham reveals walking the London Fashion Week catwalk has boosted her body confidence

She wowed during her first ever catwalk appearance for London Fashion Week on Friday - but Lena Dunham has revealed that her “insecurities” initially made her worried about being a model.

The actress, 33, has shared a picture of herself to Instagram starring in 16Arlington’s Autumn/ Winter 2020 show.

Captioning the stylish snap -which sees her don a gold and black voluminous mini-dress for the brand - she admitted that while she had initially been overjoyed at being asked by designers Marco Capaldo and Kikka Cavenati to take part, her happiness didn’t last long.

She wrote: “When my friends at @16arlington asked me to walk the runway, I basically yelled ‘YES WHEN!?’

“Who doesn’t want to be a supermodel!? I don't get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day, just like Linda Evangelista (JK, will work for chips.)

“It was only after my initial scream of joy that I realised this would hit on a lot of my insecurities- about my body, desire-ability and general coolness.”

However, Dunham insisted in the post to her 2.9m fans that the experience had ultimately been a positive one.

She continued: “Marco & Federica are such sensitive, funny and wise artists and they created a show that could make any woman feel beautiful and unusual and happy in her total uniqueness.

“I loved meeting girls from all over the world (wow, your job is a lot harder than it looks- I can barely move my legs after that strut, so hats off to models) and I’m so proud to call the designers my friends.”

The brand’s co-founders first met the star last year when they dressed her for the Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood premiere.

Dunham’s post received 71,000 ‘likes’ and more than 1,000 comments.

One person wrote: “You slayed it Lena!!!”

Another commented: “You are just so all around beautiful!!!”

Meanwhile, her friend Gigi Hadid shared: “Was so happy to see u werrrrking itttt.”

And the brand’s designers added: “Love you so much Lena.”

Earlier this week, Dunham called on the fashion industry to include more diverse body types.

Captioning a carousel of photos of herself over the years on the red carpet, she wrote: “I am getting to experience London Fashion Week for the first time.

“While I haven’t necessarily been hailed as a fashion icon (that’s the cute way to put it) I am obsessed with clothes.

“There’s never a day where I don’t get dressed with intention, even if it’s pajamas and bunny slippers in my bed.

“As our chosen leader Rihanna once said ‘I actually have had the pleasure of a fluctuating body type’ and that doesn’t always lend itself to the doors of fashion opening wide - people have a lot of rules about how girls with flesh should dress (and, let’s be real, rules about how every type of woman should dress- it’s exhausting.)

“But I’ve had some incredible and warmly inclusive designers make looks for me, and it’s a real joy to stroll through the archives and remember some of my favourite moments in my life as a mannequin...

“Shout out to all the designers who have made room for my Spanx free stomach, which is almost as wide as my hips because that’s one way a woman’s body can look.”
