Jewellery Trends for Autumn/Winter 2016/17

After a year of geometric designs, simple pieces and mixed metals, 2017 looks to be heading in a more classic direction for high end pieces, and a laid-back, punky look for everyday wear.
1. Rose Gold

We’ve seen a rise of this on the high street and it looks to be making its way into high end and bridal jewellery thanks to its warm tone that compliments any skin tone.
Wear it with other coloured gold for a laid-back mis-matched look.
2. Single And Mismatched Ear Rings

We saw this throughout the catwalks at the AW16 shows (at Proenza Schouler above), so have a bit of fun with your everyday ear rings, with completely mismatching metals and styles. A pearl in one ear, a punk stud in the other? Why not?
3. ‘90s Punk Continues

Speaking of punk studs, the 90s trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere this winter, so don’t put away your chokers, safety pins and layered necklaces just yet. (Above, Loewe AW16.)
3. Raw Stones

On the catwalks at Calvin Klein and Proenza Schouler to name a couple, we saw radically different jewels used in a more raw form - irregular cuts and unpolished finishes give a natural edge to outfits.
4. Subtle Personalised Jewellery
Tiny sparkly initials are set to be big, as ‘love’ rings and name necklaces recede into jewel history. The smaller and subtler the better for everyday wear.
5. Cushion Cut Diamonds
We spoke to the experts at 77 Diamonds, the biggest online diamond jeweller in Europe, to find out what to watch out for in wedding and high-end jewellery.
They said: The soft edges of the cushion cut shape look good on any finger and are the one to watch for engagement rings as they have the sparkle of a round, brilliant cut, but are a little more unique and individual. Plus they give the appearance of being bigger than their carat weight. And sparklier. We’re sold.
6. Halo Settings

Sticking with the engagement theme, they also told us to watch out for this one. The halo setting is where diamonds or other gem stones circle the main stone of the ring (in a halo, see?), which makes the centre jewel stand out dramatically.
We’ve seen them on the likes of Natalie Portman (pictured above) and Sofia Vergara, in pure diamonds, but this setting is the perfect way to show off an emerald or other coloured stone.
7. Eternity Rings As Wedding Bands
And long gone is the simple, plain wedding band. Now we’re looking towards eternity rings to pair with and show off engagement rings. Two key looks are the claw set - where each individual diamond is placed in its own setting around the band, and channel set - where the diamond are held together in a seamless row for extra sparkle.
8. Sapphires

But it’s not all about diamonds. Sapphires did have a small moment around the Royal Wedding and engagement, but now enough time has passed for it not to feel too, well, obvious. And sapphires are the ideal coloured stones to brighten your jewellery collection because they work with all outfits, colour schemes and styles, whereas rubies and emeralds can clash.
