Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Campbell and Lady Gaga honour Donatella Versace at Fashion Awards
Last night, 62-year-old fashion designer Donatella Versace was honoured with the Fashion Icon award at the Fashion Awards 2017.
The Italian legend, who took over her brother’s company following his murder two decades ago, has made the label her own. Today, Versace is arguably more relevant than it ever has been on.
Donatella took to the stage, wearing one of her own designs, after being introduced by supermodel Naomi Campbell.
“The amazing Donatella Versace has an innate sense of fashion and freedom and optimism,” said Naomi. “She’s had to endure a terrible sadness losing Gianni, yet she found the strength and somewhere she said ‘We are going to do this.'”
Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, who couldn’t be at the event, all recorded video messages as a tribute to the designer too.
“Donatella, you have created unforgettable, timeless and iconic fashion moments. Your talent is a special gift to the world and is worthy of this recognition,” said J Lo.
“There is nobody that deserves this more than you. I hope that you are celebrating tonight knowing that you have carried the legacy of Versace on to so many people in the most beautiful way,” said Lady Gaga. “To me, you are one of the most fantastic and beautiful women in the world. Your heart is like a diamond.”
