Inside Prince William and Princess Kate’s Touching Tribute for Queen Elizabeth’s Death Anniversary
One year after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William and Princess Kate are honoring her memory.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, who have officially returned to work after taking a brief hiatus during their children's summer vacation, attended an intimate private service at St. Davids Cathedral in Wales today.
For their first joint outing since the end of their hiatus, Kate looked elegant in a plum wrap coat dress with structured shoulders, a V-neckline, and two gold-rimmed buttons adorned at her waist. She finished the look off with her signature monochromatic touches: a matching plum fascinator, a deep purple clutch, and wine-colored suede pumps. She also added a subtle nod to the late monarch, opting to wear pearl drop earrings that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth.
Meanwhile, William wore a navy blue suit with a matching blue polka dot tie, a white button-up, and black dress shoes.
During the 10-minute service, the cathedral's Dean, the Sub-Dean, and the Reverend Canon led prayers for the royal couple. Additionally, a choir performed the Henry Purcell anthem, “Thou Knowest, Lord, the Secrets of Our Hearts,” which was previously played during the procession of the queen's coffin at her state funeral.
After the service, William and Kate headed to the cathedral's presbytery, where the princess laid a bouquet of flowers in front of a portrait of the queen. The included flowers were ivy, salal, ruscus, eucalyptus, thlaspi, asparagus, pittosporum, with white roses, lisianthus, astilbe, Veronica astrantia billion star, green hydrangeas, alchemilla mollis, and waxflowers.
King Charles III marked the one-year anniversary of his mother's death and his ascension to the throne with a statement.
“In marking the first anniversary of Her late Majesty’s death and my Accession, we recall with great affection her long life, devoted service and all she meant to so many of us,” he said. “I am deeply grateful, too, for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and myself during this year as we do our utmost to be of service to you all.”
Prince Harry also visited London and St George's Chapel in Windsor, where he privately paid his respects to his late grandmother.
