Home of the Week: Inside a $65 Million Ski Chalet With a Private Gondola to Deer Valley Resort
Deer Valley, Utah, home to an array of luxury resort brands that include the St. Regis and Montage, attracts well-heeled travelers and residents for its year-round activities, from hiking to skiing. Recently, one of the area’s newest and most expensive homes came up for sale for $65 million, and if sold for asking, it will break the record as the most expensive home ever sold in Utah. Paul Benson and Engel & Völkers Park City hold the listing.
The trophy property, easily the crown jewel of Deer Crest, if not Deer Valley, is situated within the ultra-private gated community of Deer Crest, a 600-acre enclave on the eastern side of the Deer Valley Ski Resort. Set on a 2.6-acre parcel and spanning 21,378 square feet, there are seven bedrooms and a whopping 16 bathrooms.

The home is positioned to take advantage of elevated views over the Jordanelle Reservoir, Bald Mountain, the Uinta mountain range, and nearby access to ski runs. In fact, the home has a private ski gondola, accessed via a dedicated ski prep room with built-in ski storage and seating. Motion-sensored glass doors open at the wave of a hand, and your very own gondola ferries you to the slopes, specifically the green Navigator run.
The newly constructed home was designed by Michael Upwall of the architecture firm Michael Upwall Design, responsible for some of Utah’s most notable luxury homes. Upwall is known for his “Mountain Craftsman” style and custom homes designed with sleek shapes and artistic features. Monumental and sculptural, each project is designed to respond to the landscape. Here, the architect worked alongside McNulty Construction to deliver a one-of-a-kind residence that prioritizes spectacular views and expert craftsmanship. No expense was spared—even the staircase carried a hefty price tag of $1.6 million.
This massive, modern-day ski chalet has a dynamic geometric facade with massive windows that jut out and are angled to capitalize on the epic mountain views. The main level features wide-plank light oak wood floors and an open-plan layout with a sprawling living room below a vaulted wood ceiling. There are dramatic floor-to-ceiling, towering walls of glass, a grand fireplace, and an easy flow onto a wraparound terrace. Nearby is a roomy dining area and a sleek kitchen, complete with state-of-the-art appliances, marble countertops and backsplashes, custom cabinetry, and two waterfall islands.
The relaxed nature of a ski house was paired with ultra-luxe finishes and fixtures. For instance, the primary bedroom has a tactile gray suede wall alongside striking light fixtures and floating nightstands. Each room—including most of the bathrooms—has large windows overlooking the undulating landscape.
The home was designed with every imaginable amenity and, as such, is the ultimate playground for people of all ages. Along with a walk-in wine room lined with glass-enclosed wine cabinets, a games lounge, and a pub equipped with multiple TVs, there’s a two-lane professional bowling alley, an NBA-size basketball court with an LED scoreboard, a Dolby Atmos theater with a planetarium-inspired ceiling, and a world-class climbing wall. But that’s not all; there’s also an indoor pickleball court, a golf simulator, and a dry sauna plus a steam room.
Outside, there are multiple terraces, including one with a fire pit and a curved infinity pool and spa with front-row mountain views. And, finally, from the ski prep room, the rail-mounted Skytrac gondola, lined with smoked glass, wisks up to four adults and two children to the slopes and aback. It is one of the few private lifts that have access to Deer Valley Ski Resort.
