If you haven't noticed, faux fur is back for autumn/winter, and it's chicer than ever. Toteme's famous coat with its toggle fastenings and contrasting leather trims remains at the top of every fashion editor's outerwear wish list (if they don't already own it, that is), but given its four-figure price tag, we keep our eyes peeled every year for the best affordable alternatives. Take a bow, H&M.

We couldn't quite believe it when we spotted the high-street hero's new-in 'fluffy jacket', which looks so much more expensive than £39.99. It's available in snuggly cream, cool black, and the colour of the season: chocolate brown. Cut to an oversized fit with a stylish stand-up collar and discreet side-seam pockets, it's giving us major designer vibes for much, much less.

Judging by how quickly similar styles have flown off the shelves (ahem, Marks & Spencer's sell-out borg coat), we strongly suggest adding this H&M gem to basket immediately if you love it. It's a real bargain to tide you over while you save for that Toteme coat of dreams...

In terms of the coat trends to know for AW24, our fashion editor Jodie Dunworth has studied the runways and tipped us off that faux fur will be big. She recommends embracing 'Big Coat Energy' when the temperature drops, accessorising with gold jewellery and cat-eye sunglasses, 'mob wife' style.

The other key styles to have on your radar? Detective coats – think capes, trenches and dusters – and heritage fabrics like tweed and suede in natural palettes. Winter, we're ready.
