One Reddit user is considering changing their wedding RSVP after having a plus-one invite rescinded.

In a post on the platform's "Am I the A—---?" forum, one individual is questioning whether or not they're in the wrong for wanting to change their wedding RSVP to "no" when they originally replied "yes."

The person explained in their post that the wedding is two-and-a-half weeks away. When they received their invitation from the bride — a friend from college — a week ago, they RSVP'd "yes" because there was an option to add a plus one. So, they added a friend.

"A few days later I got a text from the bride saying that I don’t have a plus one and shouldn’t have added my friend and that I cannot bring her," the original poster wrote. "She said she still wants me to attend and that I can make friends with the other guests at the wedding even though I don’t know anyone. I’m guessing the bride and groom gave me the plus one by mistake but she didn’t say so or apologize for the confusion, just told me that I shouldn’t have added anyone."

Now that the user isn't allowed to bring anyone to a wedding where they would know no one besides the bride, they are rethinking going.

"I am very socially anxious and am now very nervous about attending the wedding on my own," they penned. "I get very uncomfortable in situations where I don’t know anyone, and now I don’t really want to use my PTO to attend a last minute wedding where I’m not going to know anyone."

The poster said they feel "trapped" into going, but want to back out of the wedding.

"I did technically say I was free when I RSVP'd yes, but it was contingent on being able to bring a guest to keep me company," they explained.

Redditors came to the original poster's rescue and reinforced their decision not to go, especially because they may be a seat-filler due to being invited so late.

"You can absolutely change your mind," one user commented. "Frankly, the lateness of the invite heavily implies that you are a seat filler for others who either canceled or said no. It’s likely, however, that your relationship with your friend will never (fully) recover — considering you were not a first choice I doubt this will have much impact on your life going forward."

Another person added, "100%. Like no thanks. OP (original poster) stay at home, you don’t need the stress of getting to know strangers for a whole day/night."
