You can always expect couture fashion week to deliver some exquisite beauty looks, but the spring/summer 2019 Valentino couture show surpassed any expectations.

Delicate feather eyelash extensions and shimmering floral face paint were worn on models showcasing Pierpaolo Piccioli’s collection that brought guests watching to tears.

The beauty look was the work of legendary make-up artist Pat McGrath, who is consistently celebrated for creating adventurous looks using innovative techniques.

No stranger to experimenting with materials, last night McGrath chose delicate feathers to adorn some of the models’ lashes. She first applied her PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil in Xtreme Black around the eyes and then FetishEyes (the latest launch from Pat McGrath Labs) to the lashes.

To attach the accessories, strip lashes were first applied, and then the feathers–in various colours–were glued to them along the top and bottom. As the models then walked the runway, the feathers fluttered with every blink.

Other models had their faces painted in the most beautiful pastel flowers, mirroring the prints and palettes of their couture creations on display.

Adorning the outer eyes and temples, the delicate designs were dusted in glitter for an extra otherworldly dimension.

There were standing ovations all round, not least for this display of pure beauty fantasy.
