Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy trailer leaves die-hard fans 'thrilled but sad'
The fourth instalment of Bridget Jones' Diary will be out in cinemas next year. And fans of Bridget, and her hilarious love life, got a sneak peak at what’s to come in the Mad About The Boy trailer that dropped today. Two-time Oscar winner Renée Zellweger’s Bridget is still looking for love as she comes to terms with the tragedy of losing Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). The trailer serves the tragic news up straight away, that Bridget is a widower, which also keeps true to the books. Still, the only way is up for Bridget as she gets on with life, and the prospect of not one but two possible romances.
First, there’s the age-appropriate Mr. Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a teacher at Bridget’s children’s school. But there’s also the wild card of Roxster (Leo Woodall), the youthful man that could well be a walking red flag for Bridget. Fans are so excited to see Bridget back on their screens along with new and old cast, and there were lots of comments on social media about the franchise’s return. One simply wrote: “Briget Jones is back, and I’m thrilled.”
Another said: “The years have passed, but she didn’t lose her charm. I’m going to watch it, I think we are in for a treat. Very good cast as well.” Another agreed: “Can’t wait to see Bridget back on screen”. A fourth shared: “Bridget Jones, I have missed you”.

However, one of the film's biggest plot lines also left fans feeling less-than-happy, as one person commented: "I just jumped for joy for the first time in weeks, and then I remembered the plot of #BridgetJones Mad About the Boy and got sad all over again".
One man we also can’t forget is Mr Daniel Cleaver (played by Hugh Grant), Bridget’s boss turned romancer from the first and second films. With his character seemingly dead in the third movie, he didn’t appear - but was confirmed to be alive at the very end with a newspaper clipping.
Whilst appearing on the The Graham Norton Show, Hugh revealed: “It is a good and moving script – it is extremely funny but very sad. There was no obvious role for me, but I was crammed in. So we didn’t have a 60-year-old Daniel Cleaver wandering around looking at young girls, I made up a good interim story for him.”
The film stars a whole host of familiar faces from the Bridget Jones universe, including Jim Broadbent as Bridget’s father, Gemma Jones as Bridget’s mother, Emma Thompson as Dr. Rawlings, Sarah Solemani as Miranda, Sally Phillips as Shazzer, James Callis as Tom and Shirley Henderson as Jude. Newcomers include Leila Farzad, Isla Fisher, Josette Simon and Nico Parker.
Mad About the Boy will land in UK cinemas on 14 February 2025.
