Blake Lively Finally Responds To Controversy Over *Those* Instagram Comments

ICYMI. Last month Blake Lively stirred up something of a social media storm when she was accused of racism for a comment she made about her body.
Sharing an image to Instagram of her in a figure-hugging gold dress on the Cannes red carpet, the actress captioned the snapshot. “L.A. face with an Oakland booty.”
She was using a line from Sir Mix-a-Lot’s 1992 hit Baby Got Back, but the 28-year-old came under fire from some commentators who accused her of racism and using black women and culture ‘as a punchline.’

Despite the backlash, Blake chose to leave the photo on her feed and has remained tight-lipped about the insta-row ever since. Until now, that is.
Speaking to Shade 45’s, Sway Calloway on Tuesday, the pregnant actress explained that she didn’t mean for the comment to cause any offence.
“It was something I was proud of,” she told Sirius XM. “I never meant to offend anyone.”

Shortly after the comments were made rap star, Sir Mix-a-Lot, had seemed to come to Blake’s defence. Surprised by the controversy the lyric had created the 52-year-old claimed the expression was more about celebrating various body types than about race. Something Blake also explained when defending the controversial caption.
“Sir Mix-a-Lot, he actually said a really nice thing and he was very defensive and kind because it’s actually about celebrating women’s bodies, that’s what I was doing,” she said.
The actress, who’s married to Ryan Reynolds, continued that she would never want to hurt anyone’s feelings or upset anyone before adding that it’s nice to have curves and “not look like you’re starving to death”.
We just hope that by attempting to squash a racism row, she hasn’t ignited a body shaming one instead. Because “celebrating women’s bodies” has to include the slim bodies she describes as “starving to death”.
