Wallets at the ready: Black Friday 2024 will soon be upon us. The OG sales event is the best opportunity of the year to shop big discounts at your favourite brands. In this guide, we'll tell you when Black Friday starts and ends, which retailers to keep an eye on, and how to hunt down the best fitness, grooming and menswear deals this November.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the entire year. In the US, it marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping period. It made its way across the Atlantic in 2010, and has since become the biggest date in the UK's shopping calendar.

Most UK retailers now take part in Black Friday in one way or another, with sales lasting anywhere from 24 hours to several days and even weeks before the actual date.

Over the year's, Black Friday has morphed from an in-store event into a primarily digital sale. You can still brave the high-street in search of a bargain should you wish to. But you'll no longer need to contend with crowds of shoppers camping outside department stores.

That's because the real competition is now online. Once Black Friday enters its busiest period (typically starting the week prior), in-demand products routinely sell-out the same day and in some cases the same hour that sales go live.

When is Black Friday 2024?

This year, Black Friday falls on Friday 29 November, with Cyber Monday landing on Monday 2 December. However, you'll want to keep your eyes on your favourite retailers on the days and weeks leading up to the sale, as many deals drop throughout the month and especially the week leading up to the big day. Last year, some retailers launched their sales as early as 1 November.

How to Find the Best Deals

During Black Friday, it can be difficult to differentiate between fake deals and those that are genuine, so it's worth remaining cautious when shopping.

In 2022, Which? found that 98% of products that were on sale at seven major home and tech retailers on Black Friday in 2021 were actually cheaper or the same as their Black Friday price at other times in the year. So, it pays to be cautious.

During Black Friday, it also isn't always obvious when you've found a good deal. Follow these steps to ensure you don't wasting your money.

  1. Check prices at other retailers: When you spot a deal, check how much the same product is on other sites if you can. That way you can compare each retailer's discounts against one another.

  2. Price history tools: If you're shopping on Amazon, the CamelCamelCamel web browser plugin will show you a product's entire price history on the site. For other retailers, you can search for a product's price history on PriceSpy or Pricerunner. These tools aren't perfect, but they give you a good idea how genuine a deal is.

  3. Ask yourself: 'Do I need it?': As Martin Lewis, the Money Saving Expert, advises: 'Before spending, ask yourself, do I need it? Can I afford it? If the answer is no to any of those, DON’T buy it. Remember, it's not a saving if you weren't going to buy it anyway.'

  4. Check on our pages: We endeavour to ensure that every product featured in our Black Friday deals round-ups is a both a genuine deal and actually worth buying, regardless of how much a product is discounted.
