We’re all guilty of one bad beauty habit or another, whether it be picking that spot we know we just shouldn’t touch or getting a little bit too tweezer happy on that uneven brow. But, there are some obsessions we need to let go of, especially once we hit 30,

Picking Spots

We know, we know, it’s really tempting but try to refrain yourself from picking spots. It might not have been too much of a bother in your late teens, but in your mid 20s to 30s picking spots can result in blemishes that may leave a lasting mark. Instead of fiddling with your face try Mario Badescu Drying Lotion | £12.50 which works overnight to reduce the size of your new, but unwanted, friend.

Going To Sleep With Make-Up On

After a night of many, many after work drinks you may be tempted to deal with your panda eyes when you wake up. After all, who has the energy to wash off waterproof mascara at 1am? But, washing off make-up is a must. Sleeping with make-up on not only makes your pillow dirty, it also clogs the pores, which can cause spots.

Over-plucking

Perfection is hard to find when it comes to plucking your own brows and let’s face it, many of us have become a little bit too enthusiastic with tweezers at some point or another. Over-plucking over a prolonged period of time can result in permanent hair loss and some dodgy looking brows. We don’t want either at 30.

Instead of tending to your own brows, visit your local beautician who will know how to achieve the perfect shape for you whether it’s through threading or waxing. Just step away from the tweezers slowly…

Doing Your Make-Up On The Bus

This bad habit is a bit like beauty marmite, you either have no issue with it or you loathe it. I’m sure we can all think of one time or another when we’ve seen a full face applied effortlessly on our daily commute but is it necessary to do on public transport? Why not wake up a little earlier to apply your make-up or simplify your make-up routine to a quick travel friendly one.

Overdoing It With Perfume

We all love to smell divine, but some perfumes and colognes can be overpowering especially when you’ve doused yourself in your favourite musky, woody scent for your 9am meeting. With the introduction of pure fragrances such as Tom Ford’s Black Orchid | £53.00 , less is more.

Ignoring SPF

Sun protection is something that can be overlooked in your teens and your 20s but SPF is vital to protect from harmful UVA and UVB rays that can increase your risk of developing skin cancer. SPF can help to protect your skin against these rays and thankfully they can be found in more and more products in the beauty and skin care aisle. Start incorporating SPF into your life via face cream, hand cream and even lip balm - your skin will thank you!

Biting Your Nails

A habit many of us have picked up so easily but one we should ditch just as quickly. Bad bacteria can be picked up from many sources throughout the day and stored under our nails, which is then transferred to our mouths, ew! Research has shown that nails can hold anything from dead skin cells to infections such as E.coli.

To help avoid biting your nails aim to keep your nails comfortably short and use a nail brush to gently remove any dirt or debris from underneath your finger nails when possible.
