Azzedine Alaïa retrospective to open in London
Azzedine Alaïa is the focus of a new exhibition opening at the Design Museum in London from 10 May until 7 October 2018.
The influential designer had worked on the retrospective with Mark Wilson, chief curator of the Groninger Museum, before he died last month. The show will explore his legacy and the impact his work had internationally.

Azzedine Alaïa: The Couturier will feature 60 examples of Alaïa’s work from his archive, spanning the past 35 years, selected personally by the designer himself. WWD reports that the showcase will also include specially commissioned pieces of design and sculpture by Konstantin Grcic, Marc Newson and Kris Ruhs, with whom Alaïa collaborated in 2015.
For anyone with a vague interest in fashion, this will be an unmissable exhibition. Alaïa was known as a true visionary, known for his craftmanship, originality and kindness.
Naomi Campbell, who to this day calls the designer her 'papa', paid tribute to Alaïa at the Fashion Awards last week.
“Everyone in this room knows that Azzedine was able to transform a woman’s body into something special; make you look great and still like a woman," she said during a speech. "He captured the essence of femininity."
