ITV newsreader Andrea Byrne has spoken very honestly and candidly about her seven-year-long struggles with infertility with her husband, Lee Byrne, who is a former international Welsh rugby player. The couple went through many rounds of IVF to later conceive their daughter, Jemima, naturally, and during this time Andrea admitted she thought her husband would be "better off" without her.

Talking to the BBC, Andrea said: "I like to think that we're really strong because of it, but boy, at the time it's really difficult. There are times when we wondered how we would stay together because it's so difficult emotionally". For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.

"I remember I used to say to Lee, and he used to get quite cross with me, because I used to say, 'oh just go and find somebody else, somebody else could do this more easily, just go and find another woman'. And he would say to me 'goodness, we are in this together'."

Andrea also appeared on BBC Breakfast to promote her new book, Desperate Rants and Magic Pants, which tells her story of her fertility struggles. Lee joined the interview via video call and Andrea explained to hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, how they had been planning on giving up trying for a baby.

She said: "She (Jemima) defied the science... we were going to give up, that was going to be it. I remember Lee said to me in a conversation, which broke my heart, he said to me, we will build a different life and we would have built a different life, of course we would have done, but then, suddenly, Jemima had another idea."
