Turmeric or the Golden Spice, is gathering much attention worldwide. It’s similar to ginger root and grows mostly in Southwest India. Used fresh or dried and ground to a golden yellow powder, this is a storehouse of all sorts of good-for-you stuff.

Turmeric is added to dishes not for heat per se, but mostly for colour, and their tremendous antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

With a warm, nutty, almost mustard-like flavour, a little goes a long way and you can basically add turmeric into anything, from smoothies to meat recipes to even, cookies. Yes, cookies! Here are seven great recipes to get you started.
