Jojo Moyes, who brought us the tear-jerking masterpiece Me Before You, is back and we’re thrilled about it.

The Giver Of Stars is a heart-warming read about female friendship and resilience. It’s set in depression-era America and follows the stories of five courageous young women who are all part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library.

We fell in love with these women in the same way we fell in love with Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. This fiercely feminist novel is everything we didn’t know we needed.

2. Twas The Nightshift Before Christmas, Adam Kay | 17 October 2019

We don’t know if anybody anticipated quite how big This Is Going To Hurt, Adam Kay’s first novel, was going to be.

The record-breaking million copy best seller had the nation cry laughing last year, and now doctor turned comedian, Adam Kay, is back with his second instalment.

The book details more adventures from his time as a junior doctor. It’s just as laugh-out-loud funny as the last one, but with an added festive twist.

3. Cilka’s Journey, Heather Morris | 1 October 2019

Speaking of brilliant sequels, Cilka’s Journey is one of the most eagerly awaited books of the year.

Following on from the success of The Tattooist Of Auschwitz, this book follows the life of Cilka Klein, who was just 16-years-old when she was taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp.

You may remember Cilka, who played quite a pivotal role in The Tattooist Of Auschwitz, from Lale Sokolov’s journey. This heart-breaking true story takes a deeper look into what she endured at the concentration camp.

4. Grand Union, Zadie Smith | 3 October 2019

If you’ve read the likes of White Teeth or more recently Swing Time by Zadie Smith, you’ll be very aware of her wry humour and sheer range of writing skills.

Not many writers can write so eloquently on such a wide range of topics, but Zadie Smith shifts from the ageing struggles of a drag queen to a politically-driven piece of the upset of harmonious living, with ease.

5. The Places I’ve Cried In Public, Holly Bourne | 3 October 2019

If you count Holly Bourne’s recent novel, How Do You Like Me Now? as the holy grail in navigating your love life, then you’ll love The Places I’ve Cried In Public.

6. Christmas Shopaholic, Sophie Kinsella | 17 October 2019

If you love Christmas as much as we do, you’ll love Sophie Kinsella’s new book from the Shopaholic series.

Becky’s back and this time she’s hosting Christmas for her family. She has her sister demanding vegan turkey and a surprise visit from her old boyfriend to contend with.

Reading the Shopaholic series is somewhat of a Christmas ritual for us - like watching Love Actually and eating too much chocolate, so this is a real Christmas treat.

7. So Lucky, Dawn O’Porter | 31 October 2019

We have been long-time fans of Dawn O’Porter. Funny on Instagram: Check. Brilliant best-selling author of The Cows: Check. It’s all we look for in life.

Dawn O’Porter hasn’t let us down with So Lucky. It follows three women whose lives look pretty perfect from the outside, but as we all know, nothing is ever what it seems.

We loved the sisterhood vibe throughout, layered with a very important message about self-acceptance. Just like The Cows, this book is fabulous in more ways than one.

8. Find Me: A Novel, André Aciman | 29 October 2019

Call Me By Your Name is a stunning exploration of love and the follow up, Find Me: A Novel is just as well-written. Make sure you read Call Me By Your Name before picking up this book as it’s very much a sequel.

You may’ve also watched the Academy-award winning film version of the first book starring Timothée Chalamet as the young Elio and Armie Hammer as Oliver.

This novel checks in on where Elio and Oliver are now.

9. The Secret Commonwealth: The Book of Dust Volume Two, Philip Pullman | 3 October 2019

We loved La Belle Sauvage: The Book of Dust Volume One. If you’re an avid reader of Philip Pullman novels you’ll find yourself in familiar territory with these two books.

Equally, if you’ve never read His Dark Materials (you should, by the way) you’ll find yourself equally at home amongst Pullman’s imaginative writing.

This book continues to follow Lyra - now known as Lyra Silvertongue - as a 20-year-old woman rather than a child. This book is equal parts thought-provoking and adventurous.

10. The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse, Charlie Mackesy | 10 October 2019

This book is everything. In the uncertain times we’re facing, it’s uplifting, it’s beautifully written and it’s a stark reminder of what’s really important in life.

You’ve likely seen Charlie Mackesy’s illustrations before. We even know somebody who has a tattoo of one of his quotes, but this is his very first book showcasing his collection.

11. Rewrite The Stars, Emma Heatherington | 17 October 2019

This is the kind of book you’d read with a hot chocolate, under a blanket, with the snow gently falling outside. Ok, ok, we might not get such an idyllic setting to read it in, but it’s got that vibe about it.

It’s romantic, it’s cosy and it’s a book that can be read cover to cover in one day (because you just can’t put it down).

12. Drowning With Others, Linda Keir | 1 October 2019

No great book wish list is complete without a psychological thriller and this one is the pick of the bunch.
