West Ham were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the third-round stage as they were beaten 5-1 by Liverpool.

The Hammers took the lead at Anfield through a peculiar own goal by Jarell Quansah, but Liverpool were soon level through Diogo Jota.

He then struck again five minutes after the break, and substitute Mohamed Salah rammed home the third to ensure Liverpool’s passage into Round Four, before Cody Gakpo added two more late on to add some shine on the scoreline for the rampant Reds.

Lukasz Fabianski 5

Jota beat him with two good finishes. Then Salah did. Showed excellent distribution with one inch-perfect long ball forward for Crysencio Summerville, then made a super stop to deny Alexis Mac Allister. Busy.

Vladimir Coufal 5

His game time is reduced these days, but put in a decent shift here, winning headers and getting forward on occasion.

Jean-Clair Todibo 6

After a nervy loss of possession early on, recovered to produce a composed display, wriggling out of Darwin Nunez’s press smartly on one occasion in the first half. Unlucky that the fifth goal deflected in off him.

Max Kilman 5

Curtis Jones made him look a bit silly by playing the assist for the second goal through Kilman’s legs. Led a backline that conceded five.

Aaron Cresswell 5

Didn’t see as much of the ball as he would have liked, on a rare start for the Hammers.

Edson Alvarez 3

Forced the own goal that gave West Ham the lead, but dispossessed too many times and got himself sent off for two needless late challenges. Will miss Saturday’s game at Brentford.

Tomas Soucek 5

A couple of rushed passes. Substituted on the hour mark.

Carlos Soler 6

After initially losing possession a few too many times early on, grew into the game and produced a lively display on his first start.

Jarrod Bowen 5

Important defensive work but found it difficult to cause an attacking threat.

Danny Ings 6

Only given an hour, but showed some nice touches and put himself about. His first-half goal was offside and rightly disallowed.

Crysencio Summerville 5

Apart from one run at Liverpool, Summerville was anonymous at Anfield.

Subs:

Lucas Paqueta (Soucek, 60’) 5

Put himself about, but when West Ham were already looking beaten.

Michail Antonio (Ings, 60’) 5

Kept the ball alive in the final third and held it up when introduced on 60 minutes.

Andy Irving (Soler, 78’) N/A

Mohammed Kudus (Bowen, 78’) N/A

Not used: Foderingham, Mavropanos, Rodriguez, Wan-Bissaka, Emerson
