West Ham drop huge hint David Moyes will replace Slaven Bilic as manager

David Moyes appears set to be handed the West Ham United job after the club dropped a big clue in the process of clearing out Slaven Bilic’s backroom team.

Bilic was given his marching orders following a meeting on Monday morning after overseeing a dreadful run of just two wins from West Ham’s last 11 matches.

“I expected it and there are no hard feelings,” Bilic told reporters gathered outside West Ham’s training base. “I can be very proud of my work here.

“We didn’t start this crucial season well. As in many clubs across Europe, the manager is the one who pays the price.

“It’s a very logical move. The fans were brilliant to me from the start until the end.”

Moyes has already declared his interest in the position but his potential appointment was largely met with anger by Hammers supporters last night.

However, the fans’ worst fears look set to be realised after it emerged one key member of staff was retained in the cull of the Croatian’s coaching staff.

Only goalkeeping coach Chris Woods remains from the previous regime as the United board cleared the decks ahead of the arrival of a new manager.

The decision not to show Woods the door is significant because the 57-year-old formed part of Moyes’ circle of coaches during his successful period at Everton.

West Ham’s joint owners David Sullivan and David Gold released a statement explaining their sacking of Bilic after the club’s poor start to the Premier League campaign.

“As custodians of the football club it is our responsibility as a board to do what is best for West Ham United, and we believe a change is now necessary to ensure we can begin to move the team back in the right direction,” their statement read.

“We see this as an exciting opportunity to appoint a quality manager to the position to inject fresh ideas, organisation and enthusiasm into a very talented squad.

“We would like to thank Slaven for his efforts and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours. He will always be welcome at London Stadium, as a former player and manager who always gave everything for the club.

“We will now focus our entire efforts on bringing in the manager we believe can get the best out of the current squad of players and steer the club towards the top half of the table as quickly as possible.”
