'I Was Trashy Too': Dolly Parton Defends Goddaughter Miley Cyrus

Dolly Parton has decided to speak up about the criticism that her goddaughter Miley Cyrus has received due to her racy outfits and lewd behavior.

The country singer believes she can better understand Miley’s point of view because Dolly went through the same type of criticism back in her day. She spoke to Sunday Times about how she was considered “trashy” as well just like Miley is considered today by many.

“Back in the day, doing my own things my own way, and dressing sexy and showing my cleavage and all that, I got a lot of criticism,” she explained. “Lots of people thought I was making a mistake and that I was just trashy, which I was.”

Despite her similarities with Miley Cyrus, she doesn’t try to advise Miley at all. She believes that Miley is on her own separate journey.

“So I did go through that, but I don't give her advice,” she adds. “Everyone has to walk this journey according to their own rules. That's what she's doing. And I lurve her.”

As a close friend of Billy Ray Cyrus, Dolly has seen Miley grow up. This is why she believes that Miley is incredibly smart.

“I've known her daddy (Billy Ray) the many years he's been in the business,” she explains. “I've watched her grow up. She's a smart girl. She had to go to extremes to get her point across. I think she got the point across.”
