Tottenham player ratings vs Man City: Radu Dragusin steps up as Yves Bissouma saves Spurs
Tottenham reached the Carabao Cup quarter-final with an entertaining 2-1 win over Manchester City, in which both sides suffered serious looking injuries.
Timo Werner fired the hosts in front with an excellent first-time finish and Pape Sarr doubled their lead with a brilliant strike from 30 yards.
Matheus Nunes got one back for City on the stroke of half-time but Spurs were the better side in the second half, with Stefan Ortega making a string of smart saves.
Here’s how we rated the Spurs players…
Guglielmo Vicario 6
Nearly cost Spurs when he raced off his line rashly in the 89th-minute but Yves Bissouma was on the line to deny Nico O’Reilly a certain goal.
Archie Gray 7
Struggled to cope with the excellent Nunes in the first half and was dragged out of position for the Portuguese’s goal. Much better after the interval and played his way out of several tight spots.
Cristian Romero 7
Replaced early in the second half, presumably to protect him for Aston Villa on Sunday. Gave away a couple of rash fouls but used the ball well.
Radu Dragusin 8
Not entirely comfortably playing out on his unfavoured left foot but defended robustly. The Romanian will be needed if, as seems likely, Micky van de Ven is set for a spell on the sidelines.
Micky van de Ven 6
Forced off injured with a suspected hamstring problem after racing back to dispossess Savinho. Looked in real distress as he went off – a major concern for Spurs.
Rodrigo Bentancur 8
Composed in possession at the base of midfield, often proving the launchpad for Spurs’ quick counter-attacks.
Pape Matar Sarr 8
Doubled Spurs’ lead with a magnificent curling strike from all of 30 yards before being hooked at the interval for Bissouma.
Dejan Kulusevski 8
Made the opening goal with a superb cross and also set up Sarr from a well-worked short corner. Forced a great save from Ortega. Full of energy and clever touches in another impressive display.
Brennan Johnson 7
Drew a smart one-handed save from Stefan Ortega. Helped create the opening goal with a lovely flick down the line for Kulusevski
Timo Werner 8
Took his goal superbly to open the scoring but more characteristically fired wide after being sent clean through and sent a tame effort at Ortega from a good position. Involved in the build-up to the second goal.
Dominic Solanke 7
Held up the ball well and created a great chance for Werner with a lovely ball in the second half. Did not have many sights at goal but worked tirelessly.
Subs
Destiny Udogie (van de Ven 14’) 7
Skinned by the brilliant Savinho for Nunes goal. Involved in some smart attacking moves down the left.
Yves Bissouma (Sarr 45’) 8
Saved Spurs with a goal-line clearance to deny O’Reilly. Drove his side forward from the base of midfield in a strong showing.
Ben Davies (Romero 52’) 7
Held his own at centre-half, where he may be needed in the weeks ahead if van de Ven’s injury is serious.
Richarlison (Werner 68) 6
Finished weakly down Ortega’s throat after latching onto a rouge City throw-in.
Mikey Moore (Johnson 68’) 6
Put in a couple of low crosses but had no chance to run at City’s defence.
Not used: Forster, Maddison, Bergvall, Porro.
