West Ham Fan View: Three things we learned from the win over Chelsea
West Ham 1-0 Chelsea. David Moyes picked up his first win as West Ham boss in what was a great performance. We are not out of the relegation zone with that win, but it’s only a matter of time before we do, if we keep putting in these performances. Here are three things we learnt from the win…
Arthur Masuaku is perfect for this system
Moyes has favoured a 3-4-2-1/3-4-3 formation since he has joined the club and Masuaku has been a key player in this system. He was not favoured by Slaven Bilic, though Moyes has started him in our last four games and it’s clear why.

Masuaku is playing with confidence and his energy and speed makes him perfect for the wing-back role. But it is his technique and dribbling ability which has impressed, and he is constantly beating his man with ease. When forced to sit back, we can rely on Masuaku to bring the ball up the pitch on the left-hand side and he did this numerous times against Chelsea. He was certainly my man of the match.
Playing without fear
We performed well against Manchester City last week, but we had to gain some points this afternoon and Moyes now has West Ham playing without fear. We were not afraid to press high, attacking in numbers, and this ultimately paid off. Far too many times this season our players have been afraid to take risks with the ball.

But it’s clear that we now have a clear game plan and we are performing far better. There is a more positive approach from the first minute and we are not forced to fight back during games. With Moyes now having his best squad available to him, we can replicate this result against Arsenal on Wednesday.
Marko Arnautovic has given Moyes a problem
Marko Arnautovic has been improving in every game since Moyes’ arrival, but today was certainly his best performance. It was his composed finish which decided the game and this was his first goal in the Premier League since signing for us.
He is starting to show why we paid a club-record fee for him, but with Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio also impressing, how will Moyes accommodate Javier Hernandez? Should he stick with the current three in attack given their recent performances together?
