West Ham United Fan View: Three reasons why Slaven Bilic should be given more time

It’s no surprise that West Ham fans are calling for Slaven Bilic to be sacked. We have no wins in our first three games and many of last season’s problems are still present. We saw it throughout last season where we went on long winless runs. Relegation was a fear last season though we managed to finish 11th in the table. So with 0 wins and 10 goals conceded, should Bilic be sacked right now? Here are three reasons why he shouldn’t…

Away from home

Bilic was already at a disadvantage before the season had begun. The IAAF World Championships being held in London has meant that we have not played at home once so far. Yes, we did struggle at home last season, having only gained a total of 25 points out of 57 points.

There is no doubt that we were a better team away from home but the case may be different this season. We have lost all three away games and as we saw in our last season at Upton Park, we can be very hard to beat at home. We haven’t seen the team play under Bilic at home this season and with three Premier League home games over the next month, will we pick up our first win?

Injuries to key players

Bilic has not been able to field his strongest team once this season given our number of injuries. We should have bought more players in the transfer market to increase the quality of depth in the squad but that has not been the case.

Manuel Lanzini only returned in the game against Newcastle where it was clear that he was not fully fit. He is now injured again having pulled out of the Argentina squad and without him, our attack is static and there is little creativity. Cheikhou Kouyate is another player who returned against Newcastle though only as a late substitute. Let’s not forget the injuries to Andy Carroll and Winston Reid. These players are crucial to the first XI and they have not yet started together.

We are only three games in

Only three games have been played so far. Had we been in the relegation zone approaching Christmas, it would be understandable for Bilic to get sacked straight away. But there is still a lot of time for him to turn around the team’s form. With three of our next four Premier League games being played at home, we could see a completely different position by the end of the month.
