Manchester City (4-1-4-1)

Ederson The less heralded of City’s A-listers had zero chance with Marcus Rashford’s finish and was as safe as usual. 7

Kyle Walker At 33 the captain shows no downturn in pace, and snuffed out the odd United foray. 7

John Stones Unsettled initially then became an extra schemer to help dizzy those in red in central zones and their area. 7

Rúben Dias Could not get near Bruno Fernandes when the latter set up Rashford’s goal but settled into a dominant City outing. 7

Nathan Aké Powerless to affect Rashford’s goal as it came along the other flank. Uber-reliable. 7

Rodri Usual purring presence at the heart of City. Created Erling Haaland’s finish with killer pass. 8

Bernardo Silva Peripheral in the first half, the Portuguese became vital in a fine second-half City display. 7

Kevin De Bruyne The clever movement, silky passing and willingness to prompt his side forward were there throughout. 7

Phil Foden A long-range peach of an equaliser followed by a calmly taken decisive second in a standout turn. 9

Jérémy Doku Shot wildly and fell over more than once and, with Jack Grealish injured, Pep Guardiola turned to Julián Álvarez. 5

Erling Haaland Snatched at a close-range header then even closer volley but his added-time third oozed class. 7

Substitutes: Julián Álvarez (for Doku 59) 6; Oscar Bobb (for Foden 90) 6.

Manchester United (4-2-3-1)

André Onana Opening half finest for United, including clearance for Rashford’s strike, but might he have saved Foden’s second? 7

Diogo Dalot Had been composed until being part of right side undone by the Foden-Álvarez one-two that made it 2-1 to City. 5

Raphaël Varane Was eagle-eyed to make crucial interventions and took, rightly, a booking to stop Haaland. 5

Jonny Evans Often designated as the man to watch Haaland and showed courage to use frame as a barrier. 5

Victor Lindelöf Deployed at left-back, was often worried by Walker’s speed and should have closed down Foden ahead of the first goal. 4

Casemiro Inch-perfect tackle on Stones in the area impressed but could not administer any midfield control. 4

Kobbie Mainoo Spied in defence, midfield and attack but the youngster’s first derby passed him by. 4

Scott McTominay Rightly preferred to the average Antony, the Scot failed to cause City any problems. 4

Alejandro Garnacho Put a shift in helping rearguard but failed to pierce the home barrier when dashing in. 5

Marcus Rashford Needed a big performance and 20-yard rocket that pinballed in on off the crossbar was a great start yet spurned further chances. 7

Bruno Fernandes Flitted about from false 9 berth. Created Rashford’s opener with muscularity to hold off Dias. 7

Substitutes: Willy Kambwala (for Evans 69) 6; Antony (for Rashford 75) 6; Sofyan Amrabat (for Mainoo 82) 4; Omari Forson (for Garnacho 82) 5.
