Ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright has raised doubts over $76m (£60m/€70m) midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, whose form has been mixed for Liverpool this season. The Hungary captain has delivered plenty out of possession but Arne Slot has already challenged him to score more goals and provide more assists in the final third.

Curtis Jones shone in the absence of Alexis Mac Allister against Chelsea. The Argentine was only fit enough to make the bench on that occasion having only just come back from South America for international duty, but he is now back available and started midweek in the Champions League against RB Leipzig.

While Szoboszlai has continued to occupy a starting spot, Jones might be being primed to come in there this weekend. Ryan Gravenberch is another midfielder who became a key member of Slot's side, but the number six role appears to be his for the foreseeable future because of how well he has done there.

Mohamed Salah should just have given hint about Liverpool contract as Arne Slot feelings clear Roy Keane can't resist Trent Alexander-Arnold cheap shot as weird Liverpool obsession continues

"No one expected this from Gravenberch, and then Jones, he's gone supernova," Wright said on the Stick to Football Podcast brought to you by Sky Bet. "[With] Szoboszlai, I'm not seeing that, in his performances... I think the form of Gravenberch and Curtis Jones is really taking it to another place."

Liverpool has largely gone with a Gravenberch-Mac Allister-Szoboszlai midfield trio so far under Slot. After Jones played so well against Chelsea, though, it would be harsh for him to miss out. He was benched for the trip to Leipzig only to manage his minutes after already being sidelined with an injury this season.

Liverpool.com says: If Jones does come in for Szoboszlai against Arsenal, no one could really have any complaints. The latter could probably benefit from getting a rest having played so much while Harvey Elliott has been out. A little refresh will help him more than hinder him as he looks to kick on again.
