Former Liverpool winger Ryan Kent, who was sold to Rangers for a fee of $9.7m (£7.5m/€9.0m) when Steven Gerrard was in charge at Ibrox, recently saw his contract at Fenerbahce torn up — with the reason for that now having emerged.

Kent's contract in the Turkish top flight was cancelled by mutual consent, the Daily Mail reports, after Fenerbahce officials became aware that he intended to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Kent was supposedly unhappy about his treatment after he was frozen out at the Turkish Super Lig outfit.

The forward, now 27, had been forced to train alone after falling out with previous coach Ismail Kartal. He would undertake gym session on his own and was unable to be with the main group.

Even when Kartel moved on, the Fenerbahce board continued to back the stance that he had implemented. That meant that even when Jose Mourinho arrived to take charge, Kent continued to be left out in the cold.

Kent signed a four-year contract in Turkey when he left Rangers as a free agent in 2023. He only made 10 starts for Fenerbahce, but did score his only goal for the club when he made his debut.

Kent had interest from the likes of Leeds United, Ipswich Town and Ajax in the summer. He remains a popular figure among Rangers fans while interest from Saudi Arabia would be no surprise possibly even from Gerrard's Al Ettifaq. Leeds made a bid for him when he was still at Liverpool, but it fell below the valuation that the Reds had set, so he headed to Scotland instead.

Liverpool.com says: Kent has always had talent but he hasn't really been able to fully unlock it yet. There is still time and maybe going back to Rangers, where he has already proven to be a big hit, would be the best move to get his career back on track again.
