Dominik Szoboszlai has opened up on the challenge he has been set by Arne Slot as he looks to add more goals to his game for Liverpool.

The midfielder has been an ever-present for the Reds in the Premier League and Champions League this season, featuring in all 10 games while coming off the bench in just one of those. Opinion has been a little divided among supporters on his performances though.

Playing in a more advanced position under Slot than he did for Jurgen Klopp, the Hungarian has scored just one goal so far this season. He has had opportunities to add to his tally, having spurned golden chances against Manchester United and Wolves.

That has caused Slot to urge Szoboszlai to add more goals to his game, although the Liverpool boss has praised the 23-year-old for his work ethic, having set the tone for the Reds’ high press in games this season.

Szoboszlai made reference to the demands that his role brings when speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig, although the midfielder insists he’s not too worried about his record in front of goal at the moment.

Asked whether he was happy with his form this season, Szoboszlai responded: “It can always be better, so no.

“I can play even better, as the gaffer said, I can score more goals and get more assists. But I am doing the dirty job as well for the team, and that is the most important thing for me. If we are at the top of the league and I don't score any goals, I will take it.

"My role is almost the same. I can play a little bit higher than I did last season and have a bit more of an offensive role. I am happy with it, but otherwise it is the same.”

Detailing how he’s looking to improve, Szoboszlai added: "It is not only about training sessions and videos, of course, it helps a lot. But the game situation is different.

“You can ask the guys, I score some good goals in training but in a game it isn't the same. I am trying to work on it, to be in the position so I can score more goals. Even if it takes time, I will get there."

Liverpool.com says: The lack of goals isn’t too big a problem for Szoboszlai right now, especially with the amount of work he’s putting in off the ball to try and win possession back for Liverpool. He does need to start increasing that output soon though.

Ryan Gravenberch is virtually undroppable at the moment, and Alexis Mac Allister so rarely lets you down when he plays, so Szoboszlai is the most vulnerable out of what you would consider as the first-choice midfield three. Curtis Jones’ performance against Chelsea showed exactly why he needs to be stepping things up a bit now.
