Premier League winner Danny Drinkwater has been charged with drink driving following a crash during the early hours of Monday.

Chelsea midfielder Drinkwater, 29, is reported to have left a party at a bar in Greater Manchester before his Range Rover crashed into a Skoda.

The midfielder, capped three times by England, was reportedly in the car with a female he had met at the party. Both treated for minor injuries.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “A 29-year-old from Nether Alderley has been charged with drink driving following an incident in Cheshire.

“Danny Drinkwater was arrested shortly after 12.30am on Monday, April 8 following a one-vehicle collision on Ashley Road in Mere.

“He has been released on unconditional bail and is set to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 13.”

Drinkwater was part of the Leicester City team that lifted the Premier League after a miraculous 2015/16 season.

He then moved to Chelsea in 2017 for a reported £35 million in a bid to break into the England team on a regular basis.

But neither Antonio Conte nor Maurizio Sarri have regularly utilised the former Manchester United man during his time at the club.
