Why was Thor crying in Deadpool and Wolverine?
According to the major Marvel fan theories
Deadpool and Wolverine may have revealed most of its storyline and big cameos ahead of its release and in the days after, but there is one secret that Ryan Reynolds is keeping close to his chest.
The Marvel movie sees Reynolds' Wade Wilson made his debut into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in doing so he learned more about what it means to be an Avenger — in theory at least. One way it does this is by showing something that will happen in the "near future": Thor will cry over Deadpool while the Merc with the Mouth is seemingly dying.
Thor's emotional reaction to this prospect is referred to on multiple occasions in the film, but the audience never learns why Thor is crying, nor does Deadpool. The person who does know is Reynolds himself because he teased on social media: "I know why Thor was crying. I can’t unknow it."
Every theory for why Thor is crying in Deadpool and Wolverine
Thor cries over Deadpool in Avengers: Secret Wars
The scene itself is shown to Deadpool by Mr Paradox (Matthew Madfadyen) when he tries to entice him into joining the MCU, he then tries to quickly get it off the screen. As he tries to cover this up, he says: "Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, that happens in the distant future."
One prevailing theory is that the scene showing Thor crying over Deadpool is a teaser of what is to come in a future Avengers movie, namely Secret Wars — the sixth film hitting cinemas in 2027.
Given Avengers: Doomsday is likely to set up Robert Downey Jr's return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, it stands to reason that —like Endgame— the sacrifices we expect won't happen until its follow up Secret Wars. Many fans feel that the scene is a clue to what is to come in the sixth Avengers film.
Chris Hemsworth added fuel to the fire that the scene is related to Secret Wars when he shared Reynolds post and wrote: "I can keep secrets too".

Deadpool will team up with Thor next
Another way that the scene could become a reality, and what it could be teasing is that Deadpool will next join forces with Thor after his successful team up with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). The God of Thunder is expected to have another solo movie, and given his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is tied up with protecting the sacred timeline that leaves a spot open by Thor's side.

Deadpool might be the exact wingman that Thor needs going into his next movie, perhaps even more so because Thor: Love and Thunder was largely panned and the Merc with the Mouth might be able to help give Thor back his mojo.
Deadpool will die in the sacred timeline
The way the scene plays out, regardless of its brevity, suggests that Deadpool is on death's door when Thor is crying over him. He appears to be extremely hurt before closing his eyes, possibly forever, so that could mean that Deadpool will die in the sacred timeline.
However if there's one thing we know for sure it's that Deadpool is invincible because his powers allow him to regenerate — so this seems the most unlikely thing to happen. Also, given how much of a box office draw the character is, it doesn't seem logical for Marvel to kill the character off especially when he's only just joined the MCU, but you never know.
The scene means nothing at all
It wouldn't come as much of a surprise if the scene turns out to be a red herring, and actually has no impact or relevance to what is to come in the MCU. It would certainly be a very Deadpool thing to do.
The reason it may not mean anything is the fact that the scene is not actually new, it repurposes footage from Thor: The Dark World where the God of Thunder cries over his brother Loki's apparent death. Since this is an old scene then perhaps it isn't something that will pop up again, regardless of Mr Paradox's remark that it happens in "the distant future".
One way it could become a reality is if Secret Wars sees the heroes be thrown around different timelines and experience alternate versions of classic scenes in the MCU — it would be an interesting thing to do, and yet it would also not really mean anything because the scene has already happened.
Deadpool and Wolverine is out in cinemas now.
