Why Brie Larson signed up for 'Captain Marvel'

Brie Larson has opened up about becoming Captain Marvel, admitting that she did so because she wanted to create a symbol that could inspire people across the world.

Larson admitted as much during her recent interview with WWE Superstar Tegan Nox for the actor’s YouTube channel. At first, she revealed how emotional and profound the entire experience of being Captain Marvel has been for her, especially when it came to the response to the film.

"The thing that has just broken my heart open the most has been how many different kinds of people respond to Carol,” remarked Larson.

“So I was like ‘I want to work really hard to create a symbol that other people can take and wear and feel power in,' that was it. It wasn’t about me, it was about her and that star and what this means."

Despite only portraying the character in two movies, Brie Larson has already made Captain Marvel iconic. Not only did she make her debut as Carol Danvers in 2019’s Captain Marvel, but she then immediately popped up in Avengers: Endgame just a few months later, too.

Captain Marvel’s role in the MCU is only set to grow, as Captain Marvel 2 has already been confirmed for November 11, 2022, with Nia DaCosta directing.
