What to watch: The best movies new to streaming from Dune to Bird Box: Barcelona
Sky original Breaking Point is also out this week
Wondering what to watch this weekend? We are almost at the midway point of July and even if there's still a bit of a wait for films like Barbie and Oppenheimer to reach cinemas, there are some exciting films coming to streamers.
Prime Video, Netflix and NOW are all offering up new movies for their subscribers, such as Denis Villeneuve's awe-inspiring Dune, and the follow-up to Sandra Bullock's 2018 hit Bird Box.
Here is Yahoo UK's guide to the new movies coming to streaming this week.
Dune | Prime Video (pick of the week)
Timothée Chalamet leads the cast in this epic adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune, in which he plays Paul Atreides the son of Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) and Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson). The clan is tasked with ruling over the planet for which the film/book is named after.
When they arrive, though, things begin to unravel as the sinister Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård) sets about destroying the Atreides house in order to gain access to the planets rich resources.
Full of stunning visuals, music and performances, the award-winning film stands out among the sci-fi genre with Villeneuve proving that it is possible to bring Herbert's "unadaptable" story to life on screen.
It is also the perfect opportunity to catch up on the film ahead of the release of Part Two.
Bird Box: Barcelona | Netflix
In 2018, dystopian horror film Bird Box became a cultural phenomenon, the Netflix film saw Sandra Bullock try and navigate an apocalypse where humanity is plagued by invisible enemies that compel them to kill themselves if they look at them.

Bird Box: Barcelona continues the story, though it is a spin-off set around the same period but this time taking place in the Spanish city rather than in America.
Moving the franchise's focus onto Sebastián (Mario Casas), it follows the character as he and his daughter begin their journey to survival whilst facing enemies that are worse than the invisible entities that have taken over the planet.
Breaking Point | Sky Cinema and NOW
Move over Step Up, it's time for British cinema to have a go at making a dance movie, and Sky original Breaking Point is taking up the challenge.
The film follows two brothers who have an exceptional give for breakdancing and who decide to try out for the British breakdancing team following the death of their mother.
