What the Home Alone movies would look like with gore
The Christmas season may be over, but it’s never a bad time to reminisce on those beloved seasonal favourites, the ‘Home Alone’ movies – and to ponder the question of just how they might play out in the real world.
As we all know, the 1990 family comedy and its 1992 sequel (no one really counts the third and fourth as canon, do they?) cast Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McAllister, a sharp-witted pre-teen accidentally left behind when his family goes on Christmas vacation.
However, when the not-quite vacant house comes under attack from Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern’s bungling burglars Marv and Harry, Kevin reveals himself to be something of an evil genius and/or fledgling sociopath, as he decks out the building in increasingly deadly booby traps utilising household items.
Of course, these being PG movies, Kevin’s traps result in no more long-term damage than Wile E Coyote incurs any time he takes on the Roadrunner; but, even on release, some parents and critics were concerned that younger viewers might not appreciate this, and would see no harm in trying out similarly lethal tricks at home.
It is surely concern over this vital issue (ahem) that compelled Youtube user BitMassive to produce ‘Home Alone With Blood,’ a series of videos – four thus far (we wouldn’t be surprised if more will follow) – which digitally add realistic blood and impact wounds to violent scenes from the ‘Home Alone’ movies.
One look at these, and your young ‘uns will surely never consider trying to knock out their siblings, babysitters or any unsuspecting passers-by with BB guns, paint cans, bricks, cast iron pipes and the like.
We’re kidding of course, you really shouldn’t show these to kids. But older fans of ‘Home Alone’ are sure to get a few chuckles out of them, so long as you have a macabre sense of humour – and if you don’t, how could you appreciate ‘Home Alone’ to begin with?
As has already been addressed in the Youtube page comments section, these clips might tie in nicely with an old fan theory that Kevin actually grew up to be Jigsaw in the ‘Saw’ movies.
Good old family films, eh?
