'Top Gun: Maverick' to get Royal Film Performance premiere
Top Gun: Maverick will get a royal premiere, it has been announced.
Paramount Pictures and The Film and TV Charity are teaming up to give the long-awaited Tom Cruise action sequel a Royal Film Performance in London on 19 May.
The UK Premiere of Top Gun: Maverick will be the 72nd Royal Film Performance delivered by the charity in its almost 100-year history, and are typically attended by members of the royal family.
The last film to receive the honour was 2019's 1917, which was held at the Odeon Leicester Square.

Tickets for the Royal Film Performance and UK Premiere Screening will go on sale from 19 April and will be available via www.filmtvcharity.org.uk.
The Royal Film Performance is the flagship fundraiser for The Film and TV Charity, an organisation that supports the tens of thousands of people working behind the scenes in the UK’s world-leading film and television industry.
The venue for the Top Gun premiere has yet to be announced, but Cruise is known to be a huge fan of the Odeon's BFI IMAX in Waterloo having held the premiere for Mission: Impossible - Fallout there in 2018.
He also paid a visit to the venue in 2020 to watch Christopher Nolan's Tenet when cinemas reopened after lockdown.

The film's producer Jerry Bruckheimer said he was proud to be supporting the UK film industry with the event.

"We know audiences around the world are going to love returning to the skies in this long-awaited return," he said in a statement, "and we are thrilled to be able to support such an amazing charity that continues to aid and support the UK film industry."

Alex Pumfrey, CEO of The Film and TV Charity, said the red carpet event would help many people in the film industry still struggling with the impact caused by the coronavirus pandemic which shut down productions across the country and the globe.
"The last couple of years have been incredibly tough for everyone, not least people working behind the scenes who saw their livelihoods threatened by the pandemic," Pumfrey said.
"After such a challenging time, it really does feel special to be using the platform that is The Royal Film Performance to celebrate the return of event cinema, and also to shine a light on the support we’re able to offer to those who make it all possible."
Top Gun: Maverick will be released in the UK and Ireland on 25 May, 2022.
