Yahoo Movies The Witch director confirmed for Nosferatu remake
‘Nosferatu’ has nabbed ‘The Witch’ director, Robert Eggers.
During a recent episode of IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit Podcast, the up-and-coming director and screenwriter revealed that his next movie will be a remake of the 1922 horror classic, ‘Nosferatu’.
“[It’s shocking] to me,” he said. “It feels ugly and blasphemous and egomaniacal and disgusting for a filmmaker in my place to do ‘Nosferatu’ next. I was really planning on waiting a while, but that’s how fate shook out.”

Of course, Robert Eggers is renowned for his first feature film, ‘The Witch’ - the 2016 hit supernatural horror film which saw a 17th century New England family beleaguered by a witch after several family members go missing.
And as for ‘Nosferatu’… it’s a classic of film horror.
The original ‘Nosferatu’ was made in 1922, and famously starred Max Schrek as Count Orlok - a bloodthirsty vampire which was meant to represent Dracula. It was essentially an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, with names and locations changed to avoid litigation.
But despite Bram Stoker’s estate winning a ruling to see all copies of the film destroyed, it still went on to become a classic of cinematic horror.
And now Robert Eggers will bring us a remake.
Of course, he’s not the first filmmaker to remake the classic vampire movie, with a 1979 adaptation (titled ‘Nosferatu the Vampyre’) created by Werner Herzog, and staring Klaus Kinski as the iconic vampire.
Will the upcoming remake match either of these classic films?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But with Robert Eggers on board, it sounds promising.
