Sylvester Stallone wants new ‘Rocky’ film to tackle immigration

Sylvester Stallone has opened up about his plans for a brand new Rocky film, teasing that his idea is for it to be about a boxer that has entered the United States illegally.

Stallone made this admission at the Cannes Film Festival’s Debussy Theatre, and when quizzed about his future Stallone revealed that he had a brand new idea for a Rocky film.

Unfortunately he was unable to provide too many details on his idea, but The Hollywood Reporter did reveal that it would revolve around “a boxer who has entered the country illegally and is dumped back in his home country and has to fight his way back.”

Stallone then added, “[Rocky] finds this fella in the country illegally and it becomes a whole thing … That could be different. You throw him out of the country and into another world.”

Considering the success of the Creed films there’s every chance that Stallone will get the opportunity to make another entry to the Rocky saga. The two Michael B Jordon led boxing films have made over £300 million ($387.6 million) at the box office, which proves that even 43 years after the original’s release Rocky still has a huge appeal.

During the same appearance the 72-year-old action icon also discussed how hard he had to fight to star in Rocky, insisting that United Artists would have taken a Kangaroo over him.

Stallone has more than proven his worth, though, as the first Rocky film grossed over £175 million ($225 million) from a budget that was just £800,000 ($1 million), while in total, over the course of 8 films, the franchise has returned over £1.3 billion ($1.6 billion).
