Superintelligence star Melissa McCarthy would love to have an artificial intelligence voiced by Idris Elba, while co-star Bobby Cannavale would prefer Bruce Springsteen.
The new comedy, directed by McCarthy’s husband and regular collaborator Ben Falcone, follows ordinary woman Carol Peters (McCarthy), who is selected as an avatar for all of humanity by a sentient AI pondering whether to destroy the human race.
In order to comfort Carol, the computer program is voiced by James Corden, of whom she is a fan.

“I mean, James Corden — that's a pretty dreamy voice. Picked for a reason,“ McCarthy tells Yahoo Movies UK, though her own personal choice would be a different British actor.
She says: “I can't say that Idris Elba would be a terrible voice to have speaking to you throughout the day.”
Bobby Canavale, however, favours a particular American music icon as the only AI voice which could convince him to do what it wanted.
He says: “I hadn't thought about it and then I got asked that question recently and I said ‘no, I would never let an AI rule my life... unless it was Bruce Springsteen’. I think I would do everything he asked me to do.”

For Falcone, the choice is obvious. “Morgan Freeman,” says the actor-director. “He's everybody's voiceover, but he's got a wonderful, melodic-sounding voice.”
McCarthy also suggests she would be convinced by an AI using the voice of late Broadway legend and Thoroughly Modern Millie Oscar nominee Carol Channing.
“I don't think she gets enough of a shout-out,” says McCarthy. “I would actually love if she was talking to me all day.”
Superintelligence is McCarthy’s fourth movie directed by Falcone, following Tammy, The Boss and Life of the Party.
The cast also includes Brian Tyree Henry, Jean Smart and Sam Richardson, with Falcone also appearing in a small role.

The movie debuted on HBO Max in the USA after Falcone opted for a streaming release, although it is being released in cinemas in several countries — including the UK.
Superintelligence is due to be released into British cinemas on 11 December.
