Sylvester Stallone’s brother isn’t too happy that Sly missed out on an Oscar…

The 69-year-old ‘Creed’ star, Sylvester Stallone, had been nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the recent ‘Rocky’ sequel. And when the gong went to fellow actor Mark Rylance for ‘Bridge of Spies’ it seems Stallone was happy to take it on the chin.

But it seems his brother is already fighting his corner.

Appearing on Twitter, Stallone’s younger brother made his thoughts painfully clear.

“The Academy should be ashamed of themselves,” said actor-musician Frank Stallone in a cutting series of tweets. “It’s as clear as the nose on your face that Sly won. Mark who? It’s total Hollywood bullsh–.”

“First of all my brother has created 2 American icons 40 yrs worth and he did a historic job,” he added. “If I was Mark? I would have been embarrassed.”

And then he kicked it up a notch by getting personal…

“Mark Rylance couldn’t even comb his hair for Christ sake this is the 3rd time Sly’s gotten ripped off Rocky, Copland and Creed. New Voters.”

He did appear to calm down later, saying: “I will always defend what right but I was wrong to put down Mark Rylance and I apologize. He is a fine actor but I thought Sly deserved it.”

His original remarks may have been a bit off colour, but Frank Stallone isn’t the only one surprised by Mark Rylance’s win. After all, he was up against some rather stiff competition including Stallone, Christian Bale, Tom Hardy and Mark Ruffalo.

But ultimately, Mark Rylance clinched it for his performance in ‘Bridge of Spies’ – starring as Soviet sleeper agent Rudolf Abel in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated Cold War drama.

Of course, Sylvester Stallone himself was a little more gracious in defeat.

“To all the ‘real Rocky’s’ of the world, Please hang on to your dreams,” he said via Twitter. “NEVER GIVE IN , NEVER GIVE OUT , NEVER GIVE UP! thanks for the support.”

But will he be up for a rematch at next year’s Oscars?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but Rylance’s finishing blow has really left a mark.
