Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: The best Easter eggs and cameos (spoilers)

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a film made for fans of the titular superhero, and because of that there are countless Easter eggs and cameos to choose from in the animated film.

The animation, which is a sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, follows Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) once again as he is catapulted across the multiverse following the introduction of a villain named the Spot (Jason Schwartzman) who is determined to tear it apart.

To beat him Miles is introduced to an elite team of Spider-people by Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) whose job it is to maintain the multiverse, however their leader, Miguel O'Hara (Oscar Isaac), is determined for things to be done a certain way which forces Miles to question what it means to be a hero.

Here's everything you need to know about the film's various Easter eggs and cameos.

Across the Spider-Verse Easter eggs

In the animation, all three of the live-action Spider-Men get a nod, Tom Holland's Peter Parker is referenced by Miguel, who complains about the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and how Holland's Peter almost destroyed the multiverse with Doctor Strange.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield also both get a nod in the animation when Miguel is explaining Canon events, which are moments in every Spider-Man's life that cannot be changed such as uncle Ben dying (which is where Maguire is shown), kissing MJ (another Maguire nod), and losing a police captain in their life — here, Garfield's Peter Parker is shown mourning Captain Stacy.

The live-action Venom film also gets a shout-out when The Spot visits the film's universe, in which he encounters Mrs. Chen (Peggy Lu) at her convenience store. The villain remarks that she's not shocked by his appearance, and this is likely because of how often she's dealt with Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and Venom in the past.

There are also too many Spider-Men to count in the film, there are versions of the character from animated series, games, and even Lego Spider-Man. Fans will no doubt be scanning the scenes of the Spidey Society for hours trying to pinpoint each and every Spider-Man that makes an appearance.

It is during these scenes that fans will also get to enjoy a recreation of the pointing Spider-Man meme, except this time there are dozens of heroes doing it at once for comic relief.

Alfred Molina's Doc Ock can also be heard saying "hello Peter" when Miles is trying to escape from Miguel and the other Spider-people, while the Sinister Six also get a shout-out in the film.

Across the Spider-Verse cameos

Across the Spider-Verse has a very important cameo that could have a big impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as we know it.

When Miles is introduced to the society of Spider-people he is shown several beings that have been deemed anomalies, people that have threatened the safety of the multiverse, and there he comes across Donald Glover's Aaron Davis.

The actor is in live-action no less as he sits in a cage while dressed as The Prowler, Aaron's villain alter-ego that was first revealed in Into the Spider-Verse.

Glover first portrayed the character in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and his big reveal suggests the character could become an adversary of Tom Holland's iteration of the webslinger in future Marvel movies.

Another great cameo is J.K. Simmons, who returns to the world of Spider-Man to voice J. Jonah Jameson, the head of the Daily Bugle in every universe that is visited in Across the Spider-Verse.

Does Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse have a post-credit scene?

There is no post-credit scene as such in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, instead the film ends with a title card that declares "Miles Morales will return" before revealing the name of the trilogy's third film.

The next film in the franchise will be called Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse which was originally set to be released on 29 March, 2024. However, due to the ongoing WGA and SAG/AFTRA strikes, the film has been delayed indefinitely with no new release date planned.
