'Sonic The Hedgehog' delayed 3 months so they can ‘fix’ character design
In news that will surprise no-one, Sonic The Hedgehog has been pushed back by 3 months in order for its visual effects teams to “fix” the character design that was so mercilessly mocked upon the release of its first trailer.
Jeff Fowler, the director of Sonic The Hedgehog, took to Twitter on Friday to confirm that the film’s release date had been pushed back from November 15, 2019, to February 14, 2020, so that they could make the character “just right.”

Eagle-eyed Sonic fans were quick to notice that the Twitter post already teased one change to the character design, as it appears as though Sonic is actually wearing gloves now.

You have to hand it to the team behind Sonic The Hedgehog.

Sure, their original vision for the beloved video game hero was an offensive abomination to fans, as the team behind the film were lambasted for making Sonic look way too human, from his body to his legs, but, most alarmingly, his teeth, too.
As soon as the trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog was released social media was aflame with these complaints, and the film looked to be dead in the water months before it was due out.

But rather than stubbornly insisting that this was his vision for Sonic and that the naysayers would just have to put up with it, just 2 days after the trailer was released Fowler took to Twitter to reveal that Paramount and Sega would change the design of Sonic.
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear... you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be... #sonicmovie #gottafixfast 🔧✌️

Of course, this is the ultimate proof that fans now have a ridiculous amount of power, which in the future might force filmmakers into changes that are much more detrimental to their films. But considering just how ugly Sonic was, let’s just hope it is a one-off and worry about the consequences later.
Sonic The Hedgehog will now in cinemas on Valentine’s Day, 2020.
