As usual, there's a real range of films and TV shows to choose from when you're deciding what to watch on Sky and NOW this month. There's a potent drama set in Auschwitz during the Second World War, as well as a strange, dark comedy set during an entirely different conflict: the Vietnam War.

The latter series, The Sympathizer, features something very eye-catching indeed — Robert Downey Jr. donning elaborate make-up and costumes to play at least four different characters. He's not content to just rest on his laurels after that big Oscar win for Oppenheimer.

On the lighter side of things, there's also more mucking about from the A League of Their Own team and Denzel Washington bringing some high-octane action. Here are the biggest TV shows and movies for May on Sky...

Heather Morris' novel The Tattooist of Auschwitz tells the true story of Lali Sokolov, who was tasked with tattooing ID numbers on to the arms of his fellow concentration camp prisoners. This drama takes place in two different timelines, following the young Lali (Jonah Hauer-King) at the camp and the older Lali (Harvey Keitel) telling his story to Morris (Melanie Lynskey).

Denzel Washington doesn't do sequels. He makes great, stand-alone films and then he moves on to the next one. That changed with The Equalizer, in which he and director Antonie Fuqua reimagined the 1980s vigilante TV series for the big screen. Last year, the third and final Equalizer film arrived, pitting Washington's viciously talented Robert McCall against the mobsters preventing him from retiring quietly to a picturesque corner of Italy.

It's a great time for Equalizer fans on the small screen too as Queen Latifah returns for the fourth season of her own take on The Equalizer. That debuts on 14 May.

Based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen, this series made a big splash when it debuted in the States on HBO earlier this year. The story follows a member of the South Vietnamese army during the Vietnam War, who is secretly a communist spy working on behalf of the North. Park Chan-wook, who made the classic thriller Oldboy, co-created the series and directed some of the episodes.

But really, the most eye-catching element of the series is Robert Downey Jr and his multiple roles. He has always been an actor willing to push the envelope, and it's exciting to be able to see him flexing every acting muscle he has.

It has been a long time since A League of Their Own was just a panel show. Now it's an excuse for some of the funniest people from the worlds of sport and comedy to muck about together. Their latest excursion is to Mexico for another instalment of their road trip series. Team captains Jamie Redknapp and Jill Scott are joined by Micah Richards and Mo Gilligan, with comedian Maisie Adam popping in as a super-sub.

There are plenty of hilarious exploits in the series as the gang encounter the vibrant culture and world of Mexico. They go to a lucha libre wrestling showcase, scuba dive with sea lions, and experience the famous Day of the Dead parade.
