Sky Cinema/NOW November 2022: Best new movies and TV from 'Poker Face' to 'Morbius'

This month on NOW and Sky Cinema is focused around the World Cup, with a huge selection of football-based programmes and documentaries arriving ahead of the tournament kicking off in Qatar. Harry and Jamie Redknapp front a new series, while there are docs about the 2002 and 1990 tournaments and a special look at England legend Sir Geoff Hurst.

On the movie front, Sony's superhero outing Morbius is available to stream, while Letitia Wright stars in Sky Original drama Aisha and Russell Crowe appears in mystery thriller Poker Face.

New movies on Sky Cinema and NOW in November 2022

Hurst: The First and Only (12 November)

In 1966, Sir Geoff Hurst became the first — and so far only — player to score a hat-trick in the final of the World Cup, netting three of England's four goals as they bested West Germany. More than 50 years later, this documentary explores the highs of Hurst's sporting career while also examining the tragedies and adversity which shaped the man off the pitch.

Poker Face (12 November)

Eight years after making his directorial debut with The Water Diviner, Russell Crowe is back behind the camera for mystery thriller Poker Face. Crowe also stars as a tech billionaire who gathers his friends every year for a high-stakes poker night at his home.

This year, things are different and the friends have some dark ulterior motives — but Crowe's character also has some secrets up his sleeve.

Aisha (17 November)

Black Panther actor Letitia Wright plays the title character in this drama — a Nigerian asylum seeker struggling to fight against bureaucracy to settle in Ireland. The Crown star Josh O'Connor plays a troubled man at her residential home and they form a bond as they each try to find their footing in the world.

The Ghost of Richard Harris (19 November)

Documentary veteran Adrian Sibley helms this portrait of the late Irish actor Richard Harris, exploring his acting prowess — right up to his role as Albus Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies — as well as his well-documented problems off camera.

New TV on Sky and NOW in November 2022

The Good Doctor S6 (1 November)

Freddie Highmore returns as the newlywed doctor at the centre of this medical drama, with this season picking up in the aftermath of the deadly cliffhanger which positioned numerous hospital staff in mortal danger.

Dating Death: The Rodney Alcala Story (2 November)

Rodney Alcala died in prison last year while awaiting execution, having been convicted of five murders committed in the 1970s. Authorities now believe he may have actually killed as many as 100 people. This series explores his crimes, as well as the notoriety he received — partially as a result of his appearance on US TV show The Dating Game.

Hostages (2 November)

In 1979, Iranian student activists stormed the US Embassy in Tehran and took dozens of Americans hostage. The incident would spiral into a diplomatic crisis, which sprawled on for well over a year and is discussed in this documentary series.

Got Got Need S1 (3 November)

Despite the title of this football-based series being based on the classic playground refrain, it's not about sticker collecting. Instead, the show follows Jamie Redknapp and his dad Harry as they attempt to complete a challenge set by Jack Whitehall — to collect as many meetings with football icons as they can before the World Cup in Qatar.

Nature's Dress Code: Who Wears What and Why? (6 November)

Animal coats are, usually, selected for practicality rather than fashion. This documentary explores the unique adaptations and enormous possibilities of the "clothing" animals wear, including in some of the most inhospitable places on Earth.

The Royal Mob (7 November)

This drama-documentary hybrid explores the 19th century from the point of view of four of Queen Victoria's grandchildren, who married into Europe's most important families. Dramatic scenes are interwoven with analysis from real historical experts.

Sex & Sensibility (7 November)

In the wake of the enormous success of Bridgerton over at Netflix, the sexuality of the Georgian and Regency periods is in the spotlight. This documentary uses insight from historians and dramatic reconstructions to explore the sex lives of people during those time periods.

Gods of the Game: A Football Opera (13 November)

One of the more unusual programmes arriving ahead of the World Cup is Gods of the Game — a brand new opera about a pair of friends who front their country's bid to host the footballing spectacular. It will explore the joy of the sport as well as the dark side of its upper echelons, with musical input including a chorus of bona fide football fans.

Brazil 2002 (13 November)

Two decades on from their triumph in South Korea and Japan, this documentary special examines what made the early noughties Brazil team such an unstoppable force. England fans might want to close their eyes when that Ronaldinho free kick loops over David Seaman's head all over again. A painful memory.

Italia 90: Four Weeks that Changed the World (13 November)

The 1990 World Cup in Italy was one of the most memorable international tournaments of recent years, from Gazza's tears and the surprise success of 500-1 outsiders Cameroon through to West Germany's dramatic late victory. This three-part series delves into the stories on and off the pitch, revealing the ingredients that built such an exceptional slice of sporting drama.

The Coroner S4 (14 November)

The fourth series of this Canadian procedural sees Serinda Swan back in the titular role, investigating the mysterious deaths of a young boy washed up on a beach and a comic book illustrator.

Crazy Rich Ancients S1 (14 November)

Billionaires might be a very modern phenomenon, but the super-rich have always existed. This history doc series explores some of the most eccentric and bizarre wealthy folk from throughout time, showing their indulgence and opulence.

Rob and Romesh vs The Three Lions (17 November)

This special episode of the long-running series from comedian pals Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett sees the duo hang out with the stars of the England football squad as they prepare to Qatar. They also get chance to pick the brains of boss Gareth Southgate.

The Great Game S1 (18 November)

This eight-part Italian series examines the dark underbelly of the football transfer market, through the eyes of disgraced agent Corso (Francesco Montanari).

Avenue 5 S2 (TBC November)

Armando Iannucci's sci-fi satire returns for a second season, with the crew continuing to try to get their space tourism vessel back on course. Hugh Laurie, Josh Gad and Lenora Crichlow are back as the staff trying desperately to solve the problems and keep the unruly passengers in check.

Extreme Snakes (TBC November)

Snakes are among the most fascinating creatures on Earth, and this documentary takes in their diverse world — from the venomous predators to the enormous constrictors.

Hold the Front Page (TBC November)

Josh Widdicombe and Nish Kumar swap the stand-up stage for the local newsroom in this series, which sees them travel the country working for a variety of different newspapers as they attempt to track down real local stories in an attempt to make it to print.

Upright S2 (TBC November)

The Aussie road trip series returns, with comedian Tim Minchin again in the lead role alongside Milly Alcock — given a boost by her work as the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon. This time, they're travelling through the tropics of Queensland on the hunt for Alcock's character's mother, who has disappeared into the rainforest.

What The Killer Did Next (TBC November)

This true crime series takes an interesting perspective on the circumstances around murder. It uses interviews with neighbours and police officers in order to piece together the events immediately after the crimes as the killers attempt to cover their tracks.
