Sky Cinema/NOW February 2022: The new movies and TV shows to stream

We're heading back to Bel-Air on Sky Cinema and NOW in February, as the reboot of Will Smith's 90s hit The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air arrives for streaming viewers. Queen Latifah, meanwhile, is back for a second season of The Equalizer and Josh Hartnett takes the lead in a paranoid thriller set in the world of computing and high finance.

On the film front, Sam Claflin leads a romcom about the unconventional connection between an English author and the Mexican translator who has transformed his latest novel into a popular slice of erotica. There's also the excitement of a new thriller from Steven Soderbergh.

Of course, NOW offers the chance to purchase one of its bespoke memberships, reflecting the sort of stuff you want to watch. For movie lovers, there's the NOW Cinema Membership, while telly junkies can buy the NOW Entertainment Membership and sports fans have the NOW Sports Membership available.

New movies on Sky Cinema and NOW in February 2022

The Tiger Rising (6 February)

A 12-year-old boy finds a Bengal tiger hidden and mistreated in the woods, in this adaptation of a 2001 children's book by Kate DiCamillo. The boy, Rob, joins forces with a maid played by Queen Latifah in order to decide whether he should help to free the tiger from Dennis Quaid's cruel motel owner.

Book of Love (12 February)

Director Analeine Cal y Mayor's romantic comedy Book of Love has an enjoyable-sounding premise. The ever dependable Sam Claflin leads the cast as a British writer struggling for sales, who is shipped off for a Mexican book tour when his latest novel becomes a surprise success there. When he arrives, he learns that the reason for this success is that a local translator (Verónica Echegui) has rewritten the book as a piece of erotic fiction. Soon, they find themselves on tour together and, inevitably, their relationship builds into something different.

Kimi (19 February)

The prolific Steven Soderbergh is never away from screens for long and the director's latest movie takes on the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of an agoraphobic tech worker. Zoë Kravitz plays the character, who discovers information on a violent crime and, with her supervisors unwilling to help, she decides to take to the streets to get to the bottom of it.

Soderbergh already made crime thriller No Sudden Move during the pandemic, so he's definitely not taking the opportunity to rest. Indiana Jones scribe David Koepp has penned the script for this one.

Old Henry (20 February)

Tim Blake Nelson takes on a very different cowboy to his character in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs in the new frontier actioner Old Henry. He portrays the titular Henry, who seeks to protect himself and his son from outlaws when he discovers a near-dead man and a horse carrying a load of cash.

The Desperate Hour (25 February)

Naomi Watts takes centre stage in this tense thriller, in which she plays a mother who receives a distressing phone call while out for a morning jog. The caller is her friend and she informs Watts' character that her son may be caught up in the middle of an active shooter situation. Too far from civilisation to help, she must use her phone to keep her child safe.

New TV on Sky and NOW in February 2022

The Equalizer S2 (1 February)

Queen Latifah reprises her role as the titular vigilante in the second season of this take on the TV series from the 1980s. This new run finds Robyn McCall considering hanging up her firearm and withdrawing from her attempts to defend those who cannot find help elsewhere, until the job of tracking down a group of bank robbers pulls her back into action.

The Righteous Gemstones S2 (3 February)

Danny McBride's darkly funny sitcom about a dysfunctional family of televangelists returns for another season. John Goodman plays the lead role of patriarch Dr. Eli Gemstone, with McBride, Adam DeVine and Edi Patterson as his offspring.

Draw With Will S2 (4 February)

Kids can learn how to draw their favourite characters from TV, movies and comic books with this series, fronted by Marvel artist Will Sliney. This series includes tutorials for 10 characters, including Poppy from Trolls and the Boss Baby.

Into the Big Blue Heart (6 February)

The myriad fascinating creatures which live in and around the oceans of Earth take centre stage in Sky's latest documentary series, delivering eye-catching depictions of the inner lives of some of the most complex and interesting animals in the world.

Murder in the Valleys (6 February)

This four-part true crime tale follows the investigation into the murder of three generations of a family in the South Wales town of Clydach in 1999. Filmed over the course of a year, it explores the complexities and disagreements which remain around the incident two decades on.

The Fear Index (10 February)

Robert Harris's novel from 2011 reaches TV screens this month with a four-part limited series. Josh Hartnett leads the cast as computer expert Dr Alex Hoffman, who spots an opportunity to make eye-watering sums of money with an artificial intelligence program designed to exploit financial markets. Over the course of 24 hours, things go very wrong indeed for him.

Dating No Filter S2 (11 February)

Comedians provide commentary on real members of the public as they go on dates in this reality-comedy series. Pairings of comedy faces include Joel Dommett and Emily Atack, as well as Asim Chaudhry and Sukh Olija.

Jacqueline Wilson's Little Darlings (11 February)

Acclaimed children's author Jacqueline Wilson's 2010 novel is the inspiration for this series, which stars chart-topping singer-songwriters Lemar Obika and Jamelia Neila. The story follows two girls from very different backgrounds, who discover that they are sisters.

Bel-Air (14 February)

Will Smith's 1990s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air returns to screens in a rebooted form, with Jabari Banks taking on the character played by Smith. Developed by Smith and Morgan Cooper, it is based on the short fan film Cooper made in 2019, which reimagined the story of the sitcom as a more dramatic piece of work.

The Big Design Challenge (14 February)

Eight of the UK's most exciting aspiring designers compete for the chance to have their work exhibited at the V&A in London. Broadcaster Lauren Laverne hosts as the hopefuls are put through a series of creative challenges set by guest judges including Konnie Huq, Lemn Sissay, Mourad Mazour, Maggie Aderin-Pocock and Orbital.

The Devil's Advocate (15 February)

Giovanni di Stefano is a known con artist, with multiple convictions for fraud of various kinds. He has also been involved in high-profile legal cases as defence advocate for such notorious men as dictator Saddam Hussein and serial killer Harold Shipman. This three-part documentary explores his life and the seven-year investigation to track him down.

Resident Alien S2 (17 February)

Alan Tudyk — fresh from his voice role in Disney's latest hit Encanto — is back for the second season of this comedy in which he plays an alien who comes to Earth and assumes the identity of a doctor. This time around, he has failed his invasion mission and has taken on a new role as a protector of human beings.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver S9 (21 February)

The British comedian returns with a new season of his satirical take on current events in the United States and around the world. As well as special guests and skits, the series is anchored by Oliver's meticulously researched and sharply written comic monologues.

Great Escapes with Morgan Freeman (23 February)

Morgan Freeman fronts this documentary series, which tells the stories behind many of the most audacious and complex jailbreaks in the history of the prison system. Archive footage is used alongside dramatic reconstructions and visual effects.

Chernobyl: The Lost Tapes (28 February)

The Chernobyl nuclear reactor meltdown in April 1986 is one of the most shocking events in recent human history, and has been the subject of numerous documentaries and dramatisations. Emmy-winning documentarian James Jones has put together this exhaustive take on the disaster, helped by newly discovered archive footage and fresh interviews.
