The likes of Paddington and Wonder Woman 1984 are the pick of the bunch when it comes to archive material, with both likely to thrill any kids who are already bored after just a few weeks outside of the classroom.
On the original front, sport-focused panel game A League of Their Own is back and an all-star cast fronts new animated comedy Extinct. There's also the return of historical mystery show Britannia, which is back on TV screens for its third series.

Extinct (20 August)
Featuring some adorable doughnut-shaped critters called "flummels", this animated movie takes a journey through time. Adam Devine and Rachel Bloom voice flummels living on the Galapagos Islands in 1835, who discover via a time portal that their extinction is imminent. Zazie Beetz, Ken Jeong and Australian comedian Jim Jefferies are also among the voice cast.

This one delves back into the archives to take a look at some of the most incredible sequences captured during Attenborough's career, narrated by the man himself and including lots of unseen material.
Paw Patrol — Exclusive Shorts (1 August)

Obki (2 August)
It's never too early for children to learn about the vital importance of tackling climate change, as this animation proves. The title character is an alien who has arrived on Earth to learn about how small changes to life can affect the planet.
Black Monday S3 (3 August)
This comedy series, starring Don Cheadle and Regina Hall, follows a group of lower-tier Wall Street traders in the run-up to the titular disaster in 1987. As with previous series of the show, there will be plenty of shady dealings and drug-fuelled hedonism on show.
Britain’s Most Evil Killers S6 (3 August)
This true crime series returns with yet more of the most depraved and horrifying crimes perpetrated in the history of the United Kingdom. Previous episodes have featured the likes of Peter Sutcliffe, Dennis Nilsen and Harold Shipman.
The Equalizer (3 August)
Since the initial TV series in the 1980s, The Equalizer has become a film franchise with Denzel Washington in the title role. It's now getting a new lick of paint and a fresh face on the marquee, with Queen Latifah now portraying the titular avenging angel. She's a former CIA operative who is now utilising her unique skills to help those without the power to help themselves.
Escobar by Escobar (6 August)
This documentary follows the events that occurred after the death of drug cartel kingpin Pablo Escobar in 1993. Escobar's death thrust his son into the spotlight of the underworld — as well as the world's law enforcement agencies.
Dragons: Rescue Riders (7 August)
One of many spin-offs from the How to Train Your Dragon movie franchise, this follows twins Dak and Leyla. They were raised by dragons and, as such, maintain the unique ability to communicate with them. They use this ability to carry out numerous rescue missions.
The Disappearance of Millbrook Twins (8 August)
In 1990, a pair of African-American twin girls — aged 15 — went missing in Georgia. They have never been found and their case attracted little attention. Three decades later, though, the case is back in the spotlight, with cops reopening their investigation in 2013 and several true crime podcasts delving into the story, as well as the prejudices that kept it under the radar.
Killer In My Village S5 (11 August)
The fifth series of this documentary series continues to focus on shocking crimes perpetrated outside of the UK's major cities.
A League of Their Own S16 (19 August)
After serving as a guest host in the 14th and 15th series of this sport-based panel show, Romesh Ranganathan officially replaces James Corden in the hotseat for the new 16th series. Jamie Redknapp and Freddie Flintoff remain as team captains, with special guests including sporting figures such as Jamie Vardy, Denise Lewis and Micah Richards, as well as faces from the comedy world.
The Wimbledon Kidnapping (21 August)
The disappearance of Australian-born housewife Muriel McKay in 1969 was one of the earliest British legal cases built around a charge of murder without a body being found. With a tangled plot involving news tycoon Rupert Murdoch involved in a kidnapping which was much more than initially met the eye, this is a fascinating slice of UK history.
Britannia S3 (24 August)
This historical series, set during the Roman invasion of Britain, is back for its third run. Screenwriter and playwright Jez Butterworth — famed for The Ferryman on stage and films including Spectre and the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie — is back for more anarchic storytelling, weaving in fantasy elements amid the historical tales.
PEN15 (28 August)
Before the second season of this middle school comedy series gets going in earnest, this part-animated special picks up Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle's characters on family vacations to Florida.
The Clown & The Candyman (29 August)
Another serial killer-themed documentary is due to land on Sky this month, with a miniseries focusing on the strange connections between 1970s murderers John Wayne Gacy and Dean Corll. Despite the men operating more than one thousand miles away from each other, they were linked by a shocking network of paedophiles in the USA at the time.
The White Lotus (August TBC)
With a great cast of performers, including Alexandra Daddario, Connie Britton and Jennifer Coolidge, this six-part satirical series follows guests and employees at the titular resort in Hawaii. The action takes place over the course of the week in which, gradually, added complexities are revealed to all of the characters — not to mention the resort itself.
